Loei
Dubbed the "Province of a Sea of Mountains", Loei is another province by the Mekong which has numerous prehistoric cultural remains and important historical places.
Phra That Sisongrak
Location : Dan sai district, 86 km. from the provincial capital.
This stupa is built of brick and mortar on an 11 m. square base and is 32 m. in height; it was built as a symbol of friendship between the kingdoms of Ayutthaya (Thai) and Lan Xang (Lao). It was built between 1560-1563 during the reigns of King Chakkaphat of Ayutthaya and King Chaichettha of Lan Xang.
On one side of the monument is a stone inscription with an account of its construction. It is a copy of the original, which is in Laos at present.
