Week 7: Raiders vs Seahawks

With a 2-game lead over Kansas City and this week's opponent, the Seattle Seahawks--both at 3-3--I'm looking really good. Of course, in order to keep the opposition from catching up, it helps to keep them in line with a good ol' ass whuppin'. Seattle is next in line for one, and with the poor performance they put up last week, this shouldn't too hard. Plus, Dave Krieg's main dump-off option, John L. Williams is out, so my secondary should be able to handle the passing game fairly well.
Injuries:
RAI: Tim Brown
SEA: John L. Williams

1st Quarter

At the Seattle 3, James Jones runs for 19 yards, but it was soon followed up by a sack by Ellison (filled his quota early today) and 2 incompletions. Donnelly punted it deep into Raider territory almost the whole length of the field, and Sam Graddy brought it out to the 20. How a punt can go 90 yards in this game, I have no idea. Jackson started me out with a 30 yard run to midfield, but then after 2 sacks (Cortez Kennedy and David Wyman) and a picked run, I had to punt. However, Big Leg Donnelly comes out after a quick 3 and out. His punt wasn't as spectacular as the last one as the Raiders end up on the 48. Jay Schroeder ends the quarter with a 20 yard scramble.
Raiders 0, Seahawks 0

Next time, on When Subpar Linebackers Attack!

Yeah, you might be screwed, Seattle.

2nd Quarter

From 27 yards out, Bo puts it in the endzone to give me the lead. On the next drive, sackmaster Riki Ellison gets 2 straight sacks, including my first safety of the season. After the safety "kickoff", Schroeder, apparently afraid to throw any more lame ducks, takes off twice more for 13 and 21, the last one being a touchdown. Jones runs for 12 yards on 1st down, and then Derrick Fenner makes an uncharacteristic diving catch for another 1st down. The Seahawks go back to the running game and make it to the 4 yard line with 24 seconds left. After that play James Jones goes down (must have been the dreaded horse-collar tackle! OH NOES! OMFG!). And with Johnny L injured, the Hawks are a little short on RBs. They had the choice between Chris Warren and Burt Reynolds, but I guess Burt was busy so they had to go with Warren. Seattle wusses out big time and kicks in an easy field goal.

Halftime; Raiders 16, Seahawks 3

We got better in the 2nd quarter but still not great. Seattle's run D was so porous that they let Schroeder double his season rushing yards in one half. Of course the real story is Riki Ellison, who's finally trying to get himself noticed after quietly getting into the top 10 in sacks. Or maybe Seattle is bad enough to let a subpar pass-rusher like Riki get 3 sacks in 1 half. Either way, the Seahawks suck.

3rd Quarter

Jackson and Schroeder trade off runs and get to the Seattle 10. From there, Marcus Allen puts it in the zone for another score. Krieg dumps a pass to Ron Heller for 20 yards, but like what's been the case through this whole game, The Hawks offense falls apart. Ellison gets his 4th sack and Scott Davis adds one as well. After the punt, Bo runs for 7 yards, and Schroeder throws one of his once-a-game deep bombs. This one goes 70 yards to Willie Gault, and the Raiders score yet another touchdown. Running up the score was never so much fun.
Raiders 30, Seahawks 3

Great play, but who's that lazy SOB on the near sideline? I mean, he's just standing there!

[Insert Tommy Kane soap-dropping joke here]

4th Quarter

I do have to admit, had I not picked so many of Seattle's plays, they might actually have a chance. Instead, Riki Ellison is on his 5th sack of the game at the start of the 4th. They go for it 4th down and Krieg scrambles for 20 and a 1st down. On the next play, Krieg throws his signature mortar cannon shot and Tommy Kane makes a "killer" catch at the Raider 13. Warren, the backup's backup, puts it in the endzone from there. The Seahawks, apparently already giving up doesn't go for an onside kick with 2:20 left. I run Bo and Marcus a little, and Allen also catches a screen pass that goes for 40 yards. Bo fumbles at the Seattle 18 with 11 seconds left, but clearly that's not enough time to do anything useful.
Final
It's offical; the Seahawks suck. I've been denying this fact for awhile, thinking 2 slighty-average WRs and a running back with a 63 receptions rating was "a good passing game". It appears not. And it also appears that Schroeder is smarter than I thought. Or maybe Seattle is bad enough to let a slow, inaccurate QB complete 100% and run for more than he should. Either way, the Seattle Seahawks still suck.

Player of the game: Riki Ellison
5 sacks, 1 safety

Week after week, I wonder why superstars like Howie Long and Greg Townsend can't get to the QB as much as this guy. Whenever I pick an opponent's play, Riki's usually right there to get the sack. Meanwhile, my meaty linemen get blasted into next week. Maybe it's his way of regaining his "C". Either way I don't care, as long as I'm getting sacks.
