Week 11: Raiders vs Broncos, Part II

Before the game, the Denver Broncos were talking some serious smack about my team. They said, "You guys suck ass without Bo" and "We ownz j00" and "Bob Golic is a fat piece of s***". I told my players not to listen to any of that, because Golic is actually pretty lean compared to some of the players out there. Besides that I told them that they better give the Broncos the beating of their miserable existance...or else.

Injured:
RAI: Tim Brown, Bo Jackson

1st Quarter

On my first play Jay Schroeder dumps it off to Marcus Allen and he slashes his way to the Denver 17. Steve Smith, filling in for Bo, runs it into the endzone from there. At my 45 yard line, Steve Sewell makes fools out of my linebackers for a 14 yard gain. After that, they waste 3 plays and kick a field goal. On my next possession, Schroeder throws a bullet to a diving Mervyn Fernandez at the Denver 23. After a short run by Allen, Schroeder hits Fernandez on a curl pattern just across the goalline for another TD.
Raiders 14, Broncos 3

I think this was back before they even had pass interference. At least in video games.

This wide. Like, "No one on the screen" wide.

2nd Quarter

At the start of the 2nd, Golic and Scott Davis each get a piece of John Elway to make it 3rd and 24. Golic, apparently fired up from pregame comments, unloads on Humphrey for a loss. After a lengthy punt that brought me inside the 20, Allen runs twice for 14 and a first down. Unfortunately, the next 3 plays aren't as successful, so I punt it back to them. Sewell makes a diving catch on first down and ends up at midfield. Humphrey gets smothered twice in a row, and Elway overthrows his receiver by 20 yards, so Mike Horan makes his way onto the field again. With 20 seconds left, Schroeder hurls a bomb to a wide open Willie Gault. 70-some yards later, Schroeder is jumping up and down and pumping his fist.

Halftime; Raiders 21, Broncos 3

So far, I'm doing a bang-up job. I haven't had much of a running game, but Schroeder has made up for it with about 170 yards passing. I've been pretty much been shutting down their offense, mostly thanks to Mr. Golic. Sewell is still irritating me.

3rd Quarter

After sending Humphrey to the turf yet again, Golic knocks down a pass from Elway to bring up 3rd and long. Bob gets in Elway's face again, but the pass is completed to Mark Jackson at my 36. Humphrey gains 10 on the next 2 plays for a first down, but Howie Long takes avantage of the grapple between Elway and Golic on the next play for a loss of 11. On third down Elway is blitzed and throws it away, setting up David Treadwell to kick a 48-yarder. For most Tecmoers that would be a chip shot; of course, the CPU kickers have a harder time with those. After the missed field goal, Allen runs 18 yards to midfield for an obvious first down. My receivers are left wide open on the next play, but Schroeder instead dumps it to Allen on the flat for a first down. On 3rd down Schroeder ignores Fernandez and Gault again and Allen gets another one thrown to him and gallops 20 yards to the endzone (that was the worst sentence ever).
Raiders 28, Broncos 3

Just makes me want to break out those old NFL Films tapes.

Don't mess with Golic, fool!

4th Quarter

On Denver's next drive, Humphrey gets to midfield on a huge 21 yard run. After another sack by Long, Golic forces a John Elway fumble, but unfortunately he recovers it himself. On 4th and 20, Elway fires a pass to Jackson, but Anderson was there to bat it down to force a turnover on downs. On first and 10, Warren Powers becomes the lucky one out of the 11 blitzers to record a sack. The Broncos get lucky again as Schroeder throws a pick to Steve Atwater at the Denver 40. But their luck runs out on the next play as Humphrey is taken out with a broken pinky toe. After Mark Winder gets an warm welcome from Golic, Jackson makes another catch for 38 yards on 3rd down. I zone out for a while, but I get the ball back on downs anyway. After my next 2 plays get picked, Schroeder throws an incompletion and we're punting. Winder gets anihilated on 4 straight plays, so I get the ball at the 17 with 20 seconds left. I finish the game with a TD catch from Fernandez.
Final

This reaffirms my assessment of the Denver Broncos. They suck beyond belief. I even think the Indianapolis Colts put up a better fight than these bums. If Jay Schroeder can put up 221 yards and 4 TDs, you know there's got to be something wrong. Their offense played pretty bad too. Oh well, I'm glad I pounded these losers.
Player of the Week: Bob Golic
1 sack, 1 forced fumble, 1 injured Bobby Humphrey

Schroeder played a nice game, but the real hero of the day was that bearded wild man, Bob Golic. He was there to make the stop on nearly every play, especially up the middle where he made runners pay dearly. Just ask Bobby Humphrey; he's still feeling the power of Bob.
