| The [great] grandfather of Eggman and Maria, he was the greatest scientific mind of his time. Not only did he create the space colony ARK, but also began working on the ultimate life form codenamed "Shadow" to one day benefit all mankind. However, his plans were changed when G.U.N. came in and shut down the colony, shooting many and imprisoning the professor at Prison Island. The government wanted his "dangerous experiments" destroyed along with any trace of evidence to them. Upon finding out that his granddaughter Maria was killed too he went insane with rage, blaming all of mankind for her death and causing him to lose everything. He created a program for the Eclipse Cannon that would have it cause ARK to fall out of orbit and obliterate the Earth with its inhabitants (Biolizard). Then he made some changes to Shadow while it was inside his escape pod that landed nearby, filling Shadow with feelings of anger, destruction and hatred towards humans. But he couldn't do anything of the life-form's memories of its past. Before being killed by the government Prof. Gerald left behind his diary that first told how to release Shadow onto the world. Later, Eggman used his diary to find out what was the thing causing the colony to fall down and why it was created. Also when the Eclipse Cannon was charged up and ready, Gerald's speech announcing the death sentence for the humans of Earth was broadcast to the entire planet. |
