| Knuckles has given himself the heavy responsibilities of guarding the Master Emerald and Angel Island which are all that's left of his ancestors, thus he has grown some kind of bond with the floating island and its gem. This of course led him to become quite isolated from everyone else though he seems to have gotten used that. Sure he did work with the Chaotix for a time but that was temporary. Really, he only helps Sonic and his other friends if they either seriously need his help or if in some way his Island or Emerald are threatened - but that happens a lot. The echidna came in upon being told by Eggman that Sonic and Tails - whom at the time had the Chaos Emeralds - were also after the Master Emerald, which of course was a total lie. Knuckles took the Emeralds from the hedgehog and kitsune and got the better of them for a time, but when he realized he was tricked by Eggman, Knuckles went after the scientist himself. Now the three are friends, however Sonic and Knuckles still have their fights due to their everlasting rivalry. The thing that Knuckles will never trust anyone with is guarding the Master Emerald even for a short time. If he collects all seven Chaos Emeralds he becomes Super Knuckles and has all his natural abilities enhanced as well as being invincible to basically everything. Collecting all of the Chaos Emeralds in their "super" forms lets him become Hyper Knuckles. Not only does he shine every color of the Chaos Emeralds but he can destroy nearby enemies by bashing into a wall and is once again invincible to everything. Knuckles does try to have fun but can't very often because of his duties. He likes treasure hunting and is the best there is at it. In a way he has to be good just in case he needs to find the Master Emerald pieces, but he still uses the skills to hunt for other treasures at times. |
