The Road to Hell

In the time spring takes to change to fall
We lose the power to recall
The rocky downward path of the slow descent to hell
Each wooden cross in my mind's eye
Will mark the spot at which we lie
The ashes of our hopes and dreams as they all burned and fell
Bleed our conscience drip by drip
The balance from the scales will tip
And languish on the rocks of our lost common ground
Stare down the length of the shotgun barrel
Beware the claws of this predatory animal
Jagged edges leaving scars that will too soon be found
In spite of signals that we send
All we're left with in the end
In the cold clear light, the bitter truth that we are still alone
And in the end, lest we forget
The sun beneath the earth will set
Let darkness claim this troubled mind for her very own
Call for the Dead

Many wrongs won't make a right
To span the chasm of this night
Not so blinded by the light
Truth is never had the sight
To face the coming of the day
Ghost that just won't go away
Missing link that's here to stay
With total recall I must pay
For these days of future past
Memories long shadows cast
Pain comes flooding back too fast
Mayfly splendour couldn't last
Lost overture, rejection suite
This bitter pill I have to eat
The one who sweeps you off your feet
Will leave you lonely, incomplete
So spineless and sublime
My favourite waste of time
Sure foundations undermine
And crucify all things divine
