The world of Vega is known throughout the universe as the center of gladiator combat. Almost everything here revolves around the fight. It is the life blood of this planet.
The fight brings with it not only entertainment, but money as well. Betting on the shows is a full time proffession for most of the native citizens. Those that aren't gamblers are warriors themselves.
Every town and city has an arena of some type. Even the smallest communities will set up some place to hold duels, even if it is just a circle drawn in the dirt.
Rulers here do not charge a fee for the use of their arenas. They make their money from the betting and welcome warriors from anywhere and everywhere. Many rulers even transmit the fights world wide to gather more spectators.
A childs educatation here is no limited to reading writing an math. They are also taught how to pick a winner by simply watching his body movements or expressions. It's difficult to place bets with little or no information about visiting warriors, but the people of Vega have honed it into a science.
With the amount of combat present here, it's not surprising that Vega produces some of the universes mightiest warriors. Many gladiators die young, especially those that can't afford life saving magics. However, those that pass the trials of this lifestyle sometimes retire and hire themselves out as Mercs. These battle hardened individuals can normally compete with anyone.
With the amount of bloodshed and gambling present on this world, surprisingly there is very little crime or corruption.
Criminals are forced to fight for their freedom even for the smallest crimes. This seems to be a very effective deterent.
The gambling is closely monitored. Vegan rulers realize that fairness is key to maintaining the cash flow here. Instances of warriors throwing fights are extremely rare. Those that are even suspected of this crime are usually forced into a three on one fight to permanent death. Most realize it's just not worth it.
There isn't much else going on here, but if a Merc wants to test his skills, show his stuff, or just kick someones ass, Vega is the place to go.
