Game Intro

Wanna play but don't know how? Well I'll try to give you the basics that you will need.

Where do I go?

The game is played in chat rooms. Its played on the RPG Worlds network.

Chat Server: www.rpgworlds.com
Port: 6667
Channel: #Nessus

#Nessus is open 24/7. Go here to meet other players and play without a GM judging everything. When a GM or player wants to run an adventure or duels you will switch to a channel with a dicebot. Either #TheNexus for quests or #Vega for duels.

What is the setting?

The setting for #Nessus is a tavern. This tavern is located in the center of a fortress. This fortress is located in a void which exists outside the normal universe. Characters enter the fortress by travelling through a portal. This portal is operated by those that control the fortress.

While playing in #Nessus you do not have to stay in the tavern. The tavern is just the main gathering place. You are free to walk around the fortress or use the portal to travel to other worlds. These worlds can be one presented by the game or one of your own making.

How do I make a character?

Read the Race list. Pick one you like.

Read the Class list. Take a look at the spells available to that class. Pick one you like.

Think up a basic personality and background for your character.

Go to the Character Generator.

Fill in the boxes for things such as age, height, weight, eye color, hair color etc.. The race you picked should influence these thing.

Decide whether you want more hit points or magic points. You start with 100 points to divide between these two stats. You must have at least 1 hit point but you may start with 0 magic points if you wish.

Hit points allow you to be hit more times before you die.

Magic points will allow you to cast spells more.

Fill in the boxes for these two stats.

Note: You will get more hit points and magic points as you rise in levels. Try to distribute these points in a way that will help you survive at low levels.

Decide what types of attacks you think you will use more and whether inflicting higher damage is as important, less important, or more important than gaining more hit points and magic points. You start with 90 points to divide between strength, dexterity, intelligence, health, will power, and luck. No stat may start higher than 25. No stat may start lower than 5.

Strength: Put more points here if your going to use hand held weapons like swords and axes.

Dexterity: Put more points here if your going to use range weapons like guns and bows. Also put more points here if you want a better chance to dodge physical attacks.

Intelligence: Put more points here if your going to use spells alot. Also put more points here if you want a better chance to resist hostile magic.

Health: Put more points here if you want to recieve extra hit points as you rise in levels.

Will Power: Put more points here if you want to recieve extra magic points as you rise in levels.

Luck: Put more points here to help all the things which strength, dexterity, and intelligence effect. Putting points here will not effect these things nearly as much as placing them on the other three main stats but it will help all three at once.

Note: You will get more points as you rise in levels. Try to distribute your points with a long term plan.

Finally, fill in the box for your characters background.

Hit the "Submit" button. Your character sheet will appear in the sheets section within 3 days. It will be listed by the first letter of its name.

Note: You do not have to register a character to play. You may role play in #Nessus without a registered nick. Registering is only required if you want to gain experience points from questing and dueling.

How do I go on adventures?

You can either freeform it or wait til a GM or player wants to run one.

To freeform it, you just role play going through the portal and ending up where ever it is that you want to explore. This will be a place of your choosing and your making. You will decide what you encounter, find, fight, etc.. You will not use dice to determine outcomes, just your judgement and imagination.

If a GM or player is going to hold an adventure using dice they will come to #Nessus to gather players. You will switch to #TheNexus for these adventures. The GM will decide where the adventure takes place, what you encounter, find, fight etc.. You will just play your character.

How do I fight?

In #Nessus you will fight freeform. You will not use dice to determine whether you hit or not. If fighting a non-player character, you simply decide whether you hit or not and what the result of that hit is. If you fight another players character, you role play the combat. You control your character and decide if your opponents attacks hit and their effect. Your opponent controls his character and decides if your attacks hit and what their effect is. See the section about God Moding for specific rules about how to do this properly.

In #TheNexus and #Vega you will use dice to determine whether you hit or not and each hits damage to your enemy.

You may attack with physical weapons such as swords and bows 4 times per round. To do this, role play how your attacking and which weapon your attacking with.
Then type 4 d20

Or you may cast two spells per round. To do this, role play casting a spell and which spell your casting.
Then type 2 d20

Or you can attack with physical weapons 2 times and cast 1 spell. To do this, role play how your attacking and which weapon your attacking with, then which spell your casting.
Then roll 2 d20 (for the attacks with the weapon)
Then roll 1 d20 (for the spell you cast)

A roll of 15 or higher is a successful attack or successfully cast spell. i.e. if you attacked 4 times with a physical weapon and got 3 rolls over 15 you hit 3 times

The amount of damage you inflict will depend on your stats and which weapon or spell your using. See the "Gaming System" section for details. A GM will help you calculate stuff if you can't figure it out.

What info will I need from my character sheet to quest and duel?

Normally you will only need to know a few things.

You should know your maximum hit points. This will be how many hit points you have while wearing your armor. If you can not figure out how to calculate this, a GM or other player can help you. You will need to now your base hit points (the number in the box labelled "hit points"). You will need to know what kind of armor you have purchased (if any) You will need to know your health score and your level.

You should know if you have bonus's to hit with weapons and spells you want to use. If you can not figure out how to calculate this, a GM or other player can help you. You will need to know which weapons or spells you want to use. You will need to know your strength, dexterity, intelligence, and luck scores.

You should know how much damage you inflict with each weapon or spell you want to use. If you can not figure out how to calculate this, a GM or other player can help you. You will need to know which weapon or spell you want to use. You will need to know your strength, dexterity, intelligence, and luck scores.

That is all you really need to know to get started. You will learn more as you play, but everything else is just extra. Read the "Gaming System" and "Rules and Guidelines" sections for the more complicated stuff. If it's confusing don't worry about it. It's alot easier than it looks. Just jump in and start playing, that's the fastest way to learn. Good luck and welcome to Nessus RPG
