Races

You may notice that the descriptions of races are rather "generic". This was intentional. As a game creator I realized that the detailed descriptions of a races culture, habitat, temperment, ideology etc.. were not possible here. The city of Nessus is a gateway to infinite worlds. It seemed rather unrealistic to write detailed pages about an entire race which would obviously vary a great deal from region to region, enviroment to enviroment, and especially world to world.

There are millions of variations for every race. Something as simple as being taller than stereo typical members of a race could create a subspecies. Therefore I decided to do something different. I simply created stereo typical information for each race. It is up to the player to decide the rest about his character. He should decide on his characters background, culture, religion, and anything else not provided. Races are classified by appearance. An Elf is an Elf no matter what world he is from simply because he looks like an Elf. An Elf from this world might believe totally different things than an Elf from that world but others still see him as an Elf because he has pointy ears.

Players are free to and encouraged to create more detailed descriptions of listed races from different worlds. These more detailed discriptions will be added to the game if the player wishes to write them up and submit them. However, rather than adding these detailed descriptions to the game as "official" races they will be added to the races page as a sub species. These descriptions of subraces will provide other players with ideas about how to develop and RP their characters and build upon the universe itself.

For Example: A player decides he wants to play a "Drow Elf". He decides to write up a generic page for Drow. He simply looks over the generic info for Elves and changes the info that would make them Drow Elves rather than stereo-typical Elves. He submits it and an addition will be created at the bottom of the Elves page for Drow Elves. A subspecies is born.

If a player wanted to create info about a specific Elven society he could also do that. He would take the generic info provided for Elves and make it more specific. Rather than saying things such as "Elves generally" or Typical Elves" he would say "These Elves ..". He would also add as much other info as he wanted. He could describe their temperments, religions, homes they live in, family structures, or anything else which would be important to this specific breed. Players should be as detailed as possible when designing specific Racial societies. These would also be added as a link in the "Worlds" section of the pages. Such as "Elves of the World Yadda Yadda" or Elves of the Bingo Forest on the World of La La"

Players are free to create any subrace or society for a race as they wish. One persons vision of a race is just as valid as anothers vision. With an infinite number of worlds to build upon there is room for everyones vision.

Players which create subraces and societies will be compensated in the form of exp/$$ for their characters. The amount rewarded for their work will vary according to the amount of work they put into them. A typical new subrace might earn a player 10/$10 while a detailed racial society might earn upwards of 300/$300 or more if it is extremely well written and detailed.

Note: New races may not have any special powers, abilities, or immunities. There may be exceptions to this rule. Example: Aquatic Elves being able to breathe under water. However Aquatic Elves could not be immune to water based attacks. A race might posses infravision. But a race could not be given the ability to see invisible creatures. 99.9% of the time races which are created with special abilities will either have these abilities removed before they are posted or these races will simply be rejected entirely.

Note 2: Subraces for Vampires will be regulated strictly as this race has the potential for the most abuse and hassles. Anyone wishing to create variations of Vampires should consult with the HeadGM for approval before writing a single line. Before the question comes up.. Sorry no undead.
