Nessus GMing Guidelines

Let me start by saying much of what you find here is not to be taken as gospel unless I say it should be. The tips and tricks I will show you are just my opinions on how to do things. You may find different methods work better for you. You may find your style of GMing requires you to do things I have not covered here. That is fine and to be expected. GM's are as different as the characters they run quests for. No two will be exactly alike. That is exactly why the term "GM's discretion" is in existance. I am a strong advocate of GM's discretion and encourage it in any situation which is not covered by specific rules.

Much of the information found here is to give you something to work with so you know what you need and what you should do to start GMing enjoyable, fast, organized, well managed and presented quests right from the start. There are so many variables to GMing I can not possibly cover everything. But I will do my best to cover the most important aspects.

After 15 years, it's hard to remember exactly what would have been helpful to me when I first started GMing. So far I've included the rules I can think of. These pages are still under construction and hopefully will be indefinately. If any GM's or players have some aspect of running quests which they need help with please E-mail GMassacre-. I will add my advice to these pages for you and anyone else that might need similar assistance.

I will continue adding to the Types of Quests section to give you an idea of what you will need to do to prepare for each type of quest. Hopefully it will help you decide which type is best for you depending on your experience level and how much time you have to put into it.

I will also be adding a section of ideas for quests. If you have an idea for a quest you would like to see run, send it to me and I'll post it. GMs can search here for ideas when they hit a block. GMs should send their ideas as well. Sometimes I can think of all sorts of quests to run but don't have the time. It seems when I get the time I've forgotten half of my ideas. Send them in so you can do them later or so another GM can run them for you.
