"Reefs to
Rainforests: Mangroves to Mountains, a guide to South Thailand's natural wonders"
A glorious book. There aren't so many
photographs, but the drawings are delightful, explanations clear, and diagrams of things
like karst formation etc., easy to understand.
Provides a needed guide to the natural areas of
Southern Thailand, with a level of detail that is fascinating but not overwhelming.
Definitely worth buying, and the profits go towards an environmental education project for
children in the South. |
"Endangered
Animals of Thailand" by S. Humphrey and J. Bain, 1990.

"Endangered
Animals of Thailand"
A reference text rather than a guide book.
Fascinating if somewhat depressing reading.
Gives a clear indication not only of the incredible diversity of animal life in Thailand,
but also of the threat to that diversity. There are few pictures, so you need other
guides, e.g. Mammals of Thailand, if you're not familiar with all the species listed.
Another key point this book brings out is how little is known about most of these animals
- as we lose them! |

"Wild Thailand" by B. Stewart-Cox and G.
Curbitt, 1997.

"Wild
Thailand"
Beautifully illustrated and
well-written, this guide to "Wild Thailand" is more a coffee table book than a
book to slip into your napsack. With a strong conservation message and loads of detail and
insights it is well worth buying before or after a visit to Thailand. It also serves as a
reference text, given how difficult it can be to get a comprehensive description of
Thailand from other sources.
One of our favourite books. |
"Mammals of
Thailand" by Boonsong Lekagul & J. McNeely, 1988. Available at Asia Books and other bookstores. |
"Mammals of
Thailand"
The reference text for the mammals of Thailand,
this hefty volume is definitely not something you want to carry around with you. Better to
make field notes of animals you might see or buy a book designed to be a guide.
Definitely worth getting if you are serious about
studying the mammals of Thailand. Each reference includes black and white photographs of
the animal (where available), pictures of the skull, a map of the range, and a description
of the mammal and its ecology and behaviour. |
