The game starts out quite innocently. You are a young boy living in a house with your mom and two sisters. Your
dad is a workaholic and never comes home. Everything seems normal until your house begins to shake. A
poltergiest takes over and your lamp comes and attacks you. You move on to your sisters room where you find
a doll who begins to attack you. When you defeat the doll, it plays a note. Soon later, the house stops
shaking.
You go downstairs where you recieve a phone call from your dad. He tells you that you recieved PSI power from your grandfather. Apparently, your father does not possess this power, but you do. Basically, you begin on an adventure for no apparent reason. It starts out normal, but after venturing further into your town "Podunk", you come across a strange cave and a XX sign. After using telepathy on this xx sign, you are transported to a town known as magicant.
When you arrive in Magicant, you find a large castle. When you enter the castle, you come upon the Queen of
Magicant, Queen Mary. Queen Mary explains what these notes are. They are notes to her song. Unfortunately,
she has been unable to sing her song. She asks that you bring her all 8 of the notes so that she can sing
her song again. She does not explain what singing the song will do, but just explains that it is important.
Gathering the notes ranges from very easy (searching a desert), to very hard (fighting a very tough dragon). The game is rather hard in my opinion. It is the hardest game out of the trilogy by far. You must spend a lot of time leveling up in order to prepare yourself for many of the enemies you fight.
Throughout the game, you play as 5 different characters. The main character is Ninten, a preteen boy. Loid is the second character to join your party. He is a nerd, and is unable to use PSI. He is not around for all of the game. The third character to join your party is Ana. She is capable of very deadly PSI, but has very low defense and dies easily. The fourth character to join your party is Jack. He is very, very strong but is only in your party for a short period of time. When he joins your party, Loid leaves. When he leaves your party, Loid Returns. The Fifth character to join your party is EVE. EVE is a robot, and she is incredibly strong. Like Jack, she is only in your party for a short period of time.
There are a lot of mazes in this game and many of them are very complicated. The battle system is rather poor, and the game is very time-consuming. However, the music is enjoyable, and the game is a must for earthbound lovers. However, if you are a new gamer, or not an advanced gamer, this game is certaintly not for you.
