Epilogue Shes Bittersweet

Isaac

The car steering wheel felt foreign to me as I drove to her school. I had no god damned clue how I would get to see her, but I had to. I had to see her. I had to know that I was free to do this now. We were both free. I was out of the psych hospital, she was officially done with her community service for burning the magazine and all I wanted to do was to lift her up in my arms and feel that this was real. But we agreed not to. I had to keep my cool.

I parked in the large parking lot and walked down to the black elevator, taking it up slowly to the 3rd floor. I remember she said she lived on the 3rd floor and you needed a key card to get in. There was a young couple walking towards this large gray door on the right side, swiping the card in the slot and opening the door.

Wait a second! Hold that door! I yelled as I shut the complicated old-fashioned elevator and caught up with the couple, SorryIm a guest.

The girl giggled playfully and the guy just rolled his eyes.

Heydo you guys know Sarah Stairs? I asked them.

The girl nodded and the guy responded, Yeah, shes a music major like me. Why?

Im looking for her. Do you know where she lives?

YeahI think she lives on the other side of this floor, the guy responded as we were walking through the door to this elongated hall, You go all the way down this hall and veer left. Her rooms somewhere down there.

Okay thanks, I responded quickly.

Is that Isaac Hanson? I heard the girl ask her boyfriend in a sort of sneer, a disgusted sneer from behind me.

Yeah, that would be me, I turned around and she immediately put a shocked look on her face, How do you guys know Sarah?

Shes a music therapy major, Im music education, and Ben here is also music therapy, the girl smiled.

Oh okay, just wondering, I turned back around, Nice meeting you. I thought for a while, wondering why the name Ben sounded so familiar to me. Could it be that is the Ben she told me about a year ago?

I continued my trek down the hallway walking away from the couple and veered left like Ben had instructed me. The doors were littered with college likes and pictures of others. There was a large door more than midway down the hallway with various pictures of people on it, but a signifying picture in the center of Sarah playing Monster.

Bingo, Just the girl Im looking for, and I knocked on the door, hoping for an answer.

Sarah

God Im LAZY!

I was scurrying around my room frantically, shutting off my alarm clock and pulling on a pair of pants. I had managed to sleep for a couple hours extra today and I was going to miss lunch at this rate. Godsuch a stooge.

Shitsomebodys knocking at the door.

Just a second! I shouted, buttoning up my pants and pulling my hair into a quick ponytail and opened the door

Isaac?

Hey stranger, he smiled shyly, Want to do lunch?

Im heading down to the dining halluhdo you want to come? Weve got to go quick though, its about to close. Its uh I looked behind me, but not too slowly as I thought Isaac would fade in front of me, 12:52. It closes at one.

Yeah surewe can catch up.

Uh huh, I smiled shyly, Let me get on a pair of shoes. Come on in.

My room wasnt much, but he sat down on the bed as I sat down on the computer chair and laced my pink sneakers around my size-10 feet. The glance that Isaac was giving me burned from my skin, reminiscent of the shower burns that had occurred from the other nights shower. I swear that bathroom is haunted.

Should I consider this a date? he asked as I stood up and straightened out my shirt.

I looked at him and smiled, Yeahconsider this the perpendicular meeting of minds.

He looked at me as if a cobra just sprang out of my belly button and I laughed, Okay, whatever you say. Youve been spending too much time with Zac.

Come here you! I think a hug is in order, I stepped over to him, If thats okay.

I think it is too, his taller form enveloped my smaller, curvier body into his arms and I melted, burying my head into the crook of his shoulder. This is why I always liked hugs.

They were a treasure.

Soshould I introduce myself? he laughed and I laughed as well, looking back up at him as I pulled apart from his hold.

Yeahhi, Im Sarah Stairs, and I snort Nesquik, I giggled, shaking his hand with a firm grip.

Hi Im Isaac Hanson, and my theme song sounds like the Thundercats theme song, he shook my hand back

Thundercats HO! I laughed, shyly taking his hand and interlacing fingers.

What a glorious beginning this shall be.
