The East End School
was built in 1890 and completely destroyed by a fire on Wednesday
November 25, 1998. |

The fire started a little after midnight and the
firemen battled
the flames for 7 hours. Approximately 1.25 million gallons of water was
used to put out this fire and two firemen needed medical attention, they
were taken to the hospital at Lehighton and one was transferred to
Lehigh Valley Hospital and ended up in the intensive care unit. The
residents that lived near the old school were always deathly afraid of
this building going up in flames. Many thought the whole block would
burn down. The volunteer firemen did an excellent job containing the
fire and saving the nearby homes. This fire was so hot it melted the
siding on homes hundreds of feet away.
