| The summer of love 1967
is the main culprit for this strange eclectic mix of dream sequences,
magicians and a bus tour through the English countryside. |
 |
| This of course
allows the story to be very flexible and unstructured (and believe me it
is) strange sequences are stringed together with even stranger musical
interludes such as the infamous promo for " I am the Walrus"
featuring the Beatles dressed as a rabbit, a parrot, a hippo and of course
the walrus, surrounded by dancing policemen complete with pig face
masks, other musical interludes include Magical Mystery Tour, Blue Jay
Way, Fool on the Hill, Flying and Your Mother Should Know. |
 |
| The film
begins with Ringo buying a ticket for him as his aunt Jessie for a trip
on the magical mystery tour bus, we then meet a whole cast of surreal characters
such as the courier Jolly Jimmy Johnson and his assistant Miss Wendy
Winters. Aunt Jessie takes a fancy to the unusual Buster Bloodvessel who
is under the impression that he is the courier, the passengers are taken
to various locations under the spell of five wizards who are actually
John, Paul, George, Ringo and Mal Evans, although they are not connected
to the characters that they play as passengers on the bus |
 |
The film was panned by
critics at the time due to it's lack of structure and because the
Beatles were under the impression that they were directors, as well as
writers, musicians and actors. |
| despite this I believe
there are some brilliant and notable scenes in this film, such as the
scene that for no apparent reason the passengers are taken to any army
camp, with the army officer being Victor Spenetti he then demonstrates
something (I haven't got a clue!!!!!!) in the middle of a field with a
stuffed cow!!!! brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!! |
