"MIDNIGHT
COWBOY"
|
| Midnight Cowboy is one
of the most gritty, ultra realistic, sordid films of the era that also
portrays an unlikely and touching companionship of two anti-heros.
A midnight cowboy is a name for a
male hustler or prostitute which is exactly what are main character Jo
(John Voight) claims to be. |
 |
Under the impression
that if he moves from Texas to New York dressed in his cowboy get-up and
Southern drawl, he can make good money selling himself to bored rich
City types, but when he gets there he has no idea how. |
| Well, I
ain't a for-real cowboy, but I am one hell of a stud. |
| With this
naivity he is soon taken in by the unglamorous, devious cripple Ratso
Rizzo, and is in the first instance ripped off by him, later to befriend
him when left homeless Jo is taken into his squalid condemed home. Here
is where their friendship really begins and soon they are sharing hopes
and dreams as well as quite a few insults |
 |
 |
A really
funny incident is when they are in the "house" discussing how
poor buisness is for the"stud" when Ratso points out that the
kind of clothes Jo wears would only attract gay clients and that women
don't go for cowboys " it's purely faggot crap" to which Jo
replies "what about John Wayne? you ain't gonna tell me John
wayne's a faggot" |
| There are
some really funny moments like this but the film is one of the most
touching and perceptive films I have ever seen, make sure you
do!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
