The hippie movement was a strange combination of a change of musical tastes from bubble gum pop about love and music, to music about drugs, religion and politics, pioneers of this were the once mop top ties and suits Beatles who by now had stopped touring and were taking L.S.D. well in a nutshell anyway.

The hippie movement was also a way of expressing a disapproval with the Vietnam war and war and hatred on a whole. The y grew their hair wore bright loose clothes and beads and preached about peace and love, which achieved very little as we still have war, hatred and oppression and cannabis is still illegal.

The preferred mode of transport for a hippie was a VW van which was usually painted in bright pshcodelic colours. The best album to listen to to get into the hippie mind is probably Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles which is a strange collection of gobbledy gook lyrics considered to be a concept album (groan) that knocked bubble gum pop Headquarters by The Monkees from the number one spot stayed there for a record number of weeks and is still always popping in and out of the charts to this day.

the who

A good film to see based on hippie culture is "Easy Rider" and there are some really effective drug taking sequences, one of the funniest being Jack Nicholson blabbering on whilst on cannabis!!!     It is hard to say exactly what happened to the hippie movement as the seventies came some hippies remained but they seemed to resemble gypsies more than hippies and as the seventies wore on
different movements followed such as glam rock, disco and punk, of course some hippies still remained and still do to this day, and there are constant revivals of the clothes and music along with all the other movements, it seems like we have finally run out of ideas!!!!.
