Nesconset Fire Department - Always at the ready

In an innovative program developed by Captain Wichtendahl and Lieutenant Marra of Ladder Rescue Company 2, members of the Nesconset Fire Department have established an elite team of Fire Fighters trained in Snow Rescue. This team demonstrated their newly acquired skills on Sunday January 21, 2001.

The team remains in a constant state of readiness, knowing they may need to jump into action at any time. This brave group of men demonstrated their skills on this bright Winter Morning.

There seems to be an accident on the slopes.

The team worked on various response patterns.  It appears that a tiered response was the most effective.  A one man fly sled effected initial sizeup and triage.  The two man quick attack allowed them to control the scene.  The Heavy Rescue Sled brought the manpower up to the NFPA standard for snow rescue.

With the entire team on scene, they can handle almost any situation they encounter.

With a job well done, the team returns to the ready, waiting for the next flake to fall.
