| Nerina kicking Ass at the Borderline!! |
| Well.....first of all I better tell you that I first discovered Nerina when I saw her supporting Semisonic on their recent tour. You know how it is though....you're there waiting to see the headline act and the support slot has the potential to be a nightmare if the audience isn't responsive but luckily we weren't such a bad lot at Semisonic ;o) Anyway.....there was something there that I thought...yep...these songs are good. Well I came away from that gig and a short time later I heard 'Patience' being played on Virgin Radio.....and I knew I knew the song from somewhere! and low and behold it was our Nerina! Cool! I then saw the video on MTV and VH-1. I discovered that Nerina had got a residency at the Borderline in London and immediately decided i'd go and see her! Sadly I had to work on her first night there and didn't make the show but I made sure I was at the second. I went along with Kerena and Kate (who I was at THE Semisonic gig with) and Peter (who I knew would like Nerina and I persuaded him to come and see her!)....well......here the story starts..... Monday 13th August 2001 - Now the Borderline is such a small venue that you are within touching distance of the artists....it's a great venue....definately a fave of mine! Anyway...the support act for the show is a good friend of Nerina's....her name is Rosalie Deighton and let me just tell you......she's fantastic!!!!! You should definately check her out....her debut single 'Bruised' is out very soon followed by her album. It's the first time i'd seen her but you can just tell when someone has that little something...she's got to be a star...just like Nerina. Anyway.....after Rosalie of course....it's time for the lady herself and she takes to the stage with 3 other band members, Jeremy, Mark and Tim. It's when you're this close to Nerina that you realise just how pretty she really is and she has such a great personality to go with it! Very funny! The performance was fantastic but didn't go without a few hitches like "a loud farting noise!" in Nerina's earpiece from her pack. And just general fine tuning throughout! We certainly learnt her sound engineers name...Dave! Now infamous at all gigs. The set list was: Very Good Sir Rainbow Blood Is Blood Jump Someday Soon Daily Bread Daphne and Apollo Patience Dear Frustrated Superstar Alien If I know you and for the encore: Photograph. We were lucky enough to meet Nerina afterwards and had a bit of a chat and we knew we'd have to come back the following week! It'd be rude not to! haha. Monday 20th August and Monday 3rd September: Well after such a great time the week before we were excited once again to be back to see Nerina again. Once you see Nerina once....you're hooked! Now if you go to see Nerina.....you never know what to expect and she'll always make you laugh with some sort of comment and she'll always say what she thinks and I remember that at the second gig I saw....she was particularly pissed off as there was some prat and his mates talking throughout the entire show and it was bugging a lot of people...not least Nerina who told them TWICE to "Shut the f*ck up!" haha! This was met with cheers from the audience who I think like us were there to hear Nerina....not them idiots! It's soooooo rude to talk throughout a performance. Anyway...another couple of great gigs and once again we chatted with Nerina as well as a bit with Jeremy and Tim....a few photo's were taken, autographs etc. The set list for these two gigs were the same although, the last gig, saw Nerina miss out 'Dear Frustrated Superstar' unintentionally and so she played that after 'Blood Is Blood'. And so the setlist for these two gigs was: Very Good Sir Rainbow Someday Soon Dear Frustrated Superstar Blood Is Blood Daily Bread Daphne and Apollo Jump Patience If I Know You Alien and as the encore: God Photograph. And I have to just say that when Nerina performs 'God' live...it's just her and the piano and it's amazing!!!!!! I love it! Anyway......that's my little review of the Borderline gigs....I hope you enjoyed them if you went to any and if not then I am sure you'll see just how great she is at a gig in the future! |
