I am seardhing for birth records and parents of Michael Manning and Mary Griffith. Michael was from near Dingle. He emigrated to Rhode Island probably through Canada (Quebec) to Vermont to Woonsocket, Rhode Island. He was born probalby around 1820. Va ious sources (censuses and death records) give him different dates of birth. His obituary stated that he was from near Dingle, Ireland. I actually visited Dingle, Ballyferriter, and Dunurlin (where all the Mannings are buried) this past summer. I met s veral Manning descendents but have not yet made my connection to the Manning family in Dingle.

Surnames: FERRITER
Townlands: Ballyferriter, Dunurlin?

Comments:
My husband and I are planning a trip in October to Kerry and Cork and would like to find some missing links in the family history. My grandmother was a FERRITER and her great grandfather, (Charles) Patrick FERRITER (or Patrick J.) was born in County Kerry sometime around 1842 - 1845. He immigrated to the US between 1850 and 1860. He married Margaret SAVAGE (also b. Ireland) in 1870 in Chicago and then settled in the Milwaukee area. Unfortunately, I do not know Patrick's parents' names but it is possible th t his mother was either Mary or Catharina. Family legend suggests that Patrick came from Dingle possibly even Ballyferriter. Any connections or suggestions? We could really use any ideas for how many churches (Catholic) there are on the Dingle peninsula and any info about where they are. Also, any tips for doing research there? Thanks in advance.

My grandfather PATRICK FRANCIS CLEARY was born 20 Feb 1866 in Dingle,Kerry Co. Father: Thomas Cleary Mother: Ellen O'Donnell. That is all I know of my grandfathers roots there- except that later after coming to Butte, Montana and becoming a fireman He went to Burlington,Vermont on 17 Oct,1901 to be married to MARYANN O'DONNELL (b. 20 Feb,1871)of Main Street , Dingle,Kerry Co. Father: Maurice P. O"Donnell (shopkeeper on Main Street) b.22 July 1838 Mother: Catherine McKenna. We assumed that they somehow knew each other in Ireland or had relatives (Mc Kennas or ODonnel)l in the US. My grandmother MaryAnn (O'Donnell)Cleary died on a visit back to Ireland in late October 1912. She wrote a letter to her uncle John O'Donnell,Bridge Street,Dingle,Co Kerry from Dublin, while she thought she was recovering from a boat accident and had her bags sent ahead to him. She did not recover and died there around 27 Oct,1912. My grandfather, Patrick F. Cleary and my father, Joseph Patrick Cleary (5yrs.old)returned heartsick and alone to Butte,Montana without her. None of his grand children know if she was returned to her uncle John in Dingle and buried there or not? Both my father and grandfather are now died. Can anyone tells us the names of the parishes around Dingle where she may be listed in church or cemetery buriel records? We'd like to find her resting place. We also would like any information on Patrick Francis Cleary or relations?? You have been most patient. Thanks, Joseph Michael Cleary [email protected]

My husband and I traced his immigrant ancestor, Cornelius McDonnell, to Dingle, Co. Kerry, (Tithe and Applotment 1823). When we visited Dingle in '97, we met McDonnells from Dingle and Ballyferriter. Nice to have cousins. They told us the family came rom Antrim Co., which agrees with our family stories. The Church of Latter Day Saints also copied church birth records of the early 1800's that listed McDonnell's born in Ballyferriter and Dingle. I don't see the name McDonnell on your surname list! I'm also wondering how I can trace these McDonnell's back to Antrim. Would appreciate any help. Thanks, Cora McDonnell Tallahassee, FL, USA

We are searching for a line of O'Learys and McCarthys who emigrated from County Kerry to Monroe County, Southern Illinois, USA near St. Louis in November, 1848. Timothy McCarthy b. 1804/5 married Julia O'Leary, also b. 1804/5. The children of Timothy were Jeremiah b. 1838, Betsy, Michael Timothy b. 1848 and Julia b. 1849 in US. Julia O'Leary may be a married name, since she was apparently married before and had Mary, Johanna b. 1834, Patrick b. 1841, Daniel b.1842 and John b. 1844. These children apparently used the surname O'Leary, Leary and Larry as well as McCarthy. Patrick, aniel and John used McCarthy as surname in adulthood. We are not sure which children were from which marriage. Her brother was Daniel O'Leary who married Catherine Mulquinn and had 12 children, some in Ireland and some in US. They also emigrated to Southern Illinois in November 1848. We are pretty certain she was from somewhere in Kerry, but we have no information at all on his origins. Some of these children left Illinois and ended up in Kansas and Iowa. ANY information would be greatly appreciated! Candace McCarthy King

Excellent! Provides structure and framework to Irish genealogical work. This should be done for other geographical areas. We Irish genealogists need additional organizational work like this.

George Clarke was a cattle dealer, a Protestant(Church of Ireland) and lived in Dingle area in early 1840's-immigrated to USA in 1845. He was originally from East Inch near Dunmanway in Co. Cork. He was son of Goodhand Clarke of Inch farm. Some of his chi dren may have been born in Dingle area, while he worked and lived there. His wife was Elizabeth Chambers. I am searching for any sources that might have a record of Church of Ireland births, deaths, marriages or the parish registers. Also any trade association records or histories of the cattle business in Dingle in that time period. His daughter Barbara Clarke was my GGG grandmother.

My great-grandparents were James and Mary O'Neill (nee Bowler) and lived in County Kerry during 1860-70. They apparently worked for a Lord Ventry for 6d/day plus free turnips. Their children included John (my grandfather), Johanna, and Mary who all later migrated to Australia in 1890's. I would like to hear from anyone who has any further information on this family.

I am searching for info on my ggggrandfather Jeremiah O'HANLON/HANLON born in Glen Quinn, Limerick County, married Margaret SCANLON. They lived, for awhile in Rathkeale, County Limerick, as some of their children were born there. They had 7 children, Mar , Patrick, Thomas, Martin, twins Bridget & Ellen, born in County Kerry, Ireland, 1834, Michael & Phillip. The family then immigrated to Canada, 1841, to the United States, 1846, then to Chicago, Illinois in 1848. Jeremiah's father's name could possibly be Phillip, but that is not known for sure. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I have extensive info on Mary & Ellen and some info on Martin & Bridget. Thanks [email protected]
