Salisbury

____________________________________________________________

Our second day in southwest England was entirely in Salisbury. The Salisbury Cathedral dominates the town and took up most of our day. Built between 1220 and 1258, it has the tallest spire in England. It also has some stained glass dating back to its construction. Although the suggested "donation" wasn't cheap for a cathedral, we were given an excellent guided tour. After seeing the cathedral proper, we saw the Chapter House, in which is displayed one of the four remaining originals of the Magna Carta, written in Norman Latin. Tobin and Justin have some relatives buried near, but we couldn't find the graves. The man who gave us the tour thought that they were probably destroyed in some revolt a few centuries ago. After that we went outside and took pictures and enjoyed the sun. The cathedral really is enormous.

The rest of the day we browsed the various shops, ate lunch at a Chinese place, then headed home.
