Richborough

____________________________________________________________

After Dover Castle on day two of our Southeast England trip, we went to Richborough.
"One of the most significant sites in England's early history, this extensive, grassy site was where, in AD 43, Claudius's Roman invaders made their first landing.(183)"
The area flourished as a trading post, port, and military establishment until the end of Roman rule. The large town is now only remembered by some stone walls, big ditches, and a few foundations of the military fort.

Trying to be poetic or something: the power of the 1st century (walls of a Roman military fort) surrounding the power of the 21st century (nuclear power plant)

Our next stop that day was to the Battle of Hastings.
