Lavenham

____________________________________________________________

"Often considered the most perfect of all English small towns, Lavenham is a treasure trove of black and white timber-framed houses ranged along streets whose pattern is virtually unchanged from medieval times. For 150 years, between the 14th and 16th centuries, Lavenham was the prosperous centre of the Suffolk wool trade. It still has many outstanding and well-preserved buildings (216)."

Lavenham is worth seeing only for the architecture (see pictures). But the small shops which line the High Street quickly become repetitive, being a homogenous spread of tiny antique shops filled with little more than baubles. It was rumoured that one store sold hourglasses, but this is as of yet unsubstantiated. In the summer months, certain historic buildings are open to the public, so a return trip at that time is likely.
