Hadrian's Wall

____________________________________________________________

Day 1, Wednesday, 13 OCT 2004:
We had been to Edinburgh, but hadn't really seen Scotland other than that. We really wanted to see the Highlands, so we planned a week-long trip that took us up the east side of England, spending a few days in Inverness, then over to Skye, and then down the west side of England. Our trip actually began on the evening of day zero. We did the drive from home to Newcastle at night, so we could drive uninterrupted while Malachi slept. That part worked well, but once we arrived at our hotel, he didn't want to go back to sleep.

The next day we continued our drive north, with a very long stop right away, at Hadrian's Wall. There are many sites along the wall, so we picked one that looked good: Housesteads, some very complete remains of a major fort. It was much more impressive than we expected. Justin thought we would stop, see a big wall, take some pictures, and move on. We ended up staying two hours (including lunch).

We had nice weather all day, which was good, because the drive north is pretty. We arrived at our bed and breakfast in Inverness at 9pm.
