Tasks of a Pharmacist
Being a pharmacist includes many tasks. The daily routine of a pharmacist is very hectic and stressful. Pharmacists work irregular hours in hospitals, clinics, or drug stores that often includes weekend hours. A pharmacist's typical tasks are:
- compounds radioactive substances and reagents to prepare radiopharmaceutical, following radiopharmacy laboratory precedures.
- plans and direct the mixing, packaging, storing, and labeling of pharmaceuticals according to legal requirements.
- reviews prescriptions to assure accuracy and suitability.
- answers questions and provides information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage of medications.
- consults medical staff to discuss drug applications and to review or evaluate the effectiveness or pharmaceuticals.
- adheres to establishd procedures concerning the security of controlled substances and disposal of hazardous waste.
- maintain records, such as pharmacy files, inventory reports, and substance control logs.
- asnalyzes records to find prescribing trends and excessive usuage.
