Adam: Green Lantern of Sector 1055

Flaws

Alien
Adam is an obvious alien, seeming to be a good match for any other known race out there. He is humanoid and has all the analogous biological parts that a humanoid normally does. He is first and foremost purple: with plum shaded skin, purple eyes and, with the exception of his shock of white hair as an adult, hair that is dark violet in color (although he doesnt know it, it will go purple gray with age). Also, and the most telling and very obvious trait, he has seven digits on each hand and foot two opposable thumbs per hand also. This doesnt cause many problems in interplanetary cultures, because everyone is an alien somewhere when you are traveling though galactic space, but in more culturally backwards locales (such as Earth) he faces the issues of prejudice and an initial distrust from those he would want to interact with. However, even on highly cosmopolitan planets where aliens arent anything to blink at, his uniqueness impacts the application of medicine, as he is not covered in any known xenobiology courses.

Enemies/Anazrat Photons
A group of foraging photons passed though Adams home system during the tenure of the 4696th member of his line. Then, about 45 years later, Adam #4714 rescued a ship whos crew was already dying from exposure to the glop were carrying, a by-product of tin-based vegetation that was vital to the survival of the sentient photons of the Anazrat system. You would think they would be grateful to have their foodstuff brought to them, right? No, they didnt feel that Adam had the correct doneness and left him for dead. His son doesnt like these beings and they would be unlikely to react positively to the presence of an Adam either.

Enemies/GLC Enemies
There is no secret that there has been a Green Lantern named Adam in Sector 1055 for more than 12,000 years. It is not common knowledge that this represents almost 5,000 individuals in one of the strangest familial lines in the universe. Because of this, many of the long term villains known to plague the Green Lantern Corps know of Adam and wouldnt mind taking him down a notch. Among this latter category, and fairly worrisome for any Green Lantern to encounter them are the Manhunters (who hold a grudge from three million years ago or so from when they were replaced by the Green Lanterns by the Guardians of the Universe) and individuals such as Fatality whos goal is to kill all Lanterns, due to the fact that her home world was destroyed by John Stewart.

Gasses/Heat Vulnerability
When exposed to a specific mixture of vapors from the volcano on his homeworld Adamia, Adams invulnerability to heat collapses inwardly allowing him to be harmed by fire. While the gasses that cause this change in Adam are a component of the volcanic gas produced by the volcano on his home world that erupts approximately every two and a half years but these gasses may not be present in the volcanic eruptions on other worlds and may be found in other sources as well. Any exposure to these gasses, however, at more than trace levels will totally negate his invulnerability to heat for an hour, after which it slowly returns to its normal level over a period of five hours.

The combination of gasses that produce this effect can be separated and are distinctive from those that cause a soporific effect in Adam (see related flaw trait). An enemy who is very familiar with him may pre-manufacture a compound to take advantage of this weakness.

Gasses/Soporific
When exposed to a specific mixture of vapors from the volcano on his homeworld Adamia, Adam is put into a deep sleep that lasts a full hour unless interrupted, and if interrupted he awakens groggy and it takes a focused act of will for him to not go to sleep which would preclude other actions that require a focused will to perform. While the gasses that cause this effect are a component of the volcanic gas produced by the volcano on his home world that erupts approximately every two and a half years but these gasses may not be present in the volcanic eruptions on other worlds and may be found in other sources as well.

The combination of gasses that produce this effect can be separated and are distinctive from those that cause Adams invulnerability to heat (see related flaw trait). An enemy who is very familiar with him may pre-manufacture a compound to take advantage of this weakness.

Hatred/Hal Jordan
Hal Jordan. He was the greatest Green Lantern at one time. He even inspired Adam 4714 to adjust his costume to include a mask out of respect for the man. Then he went rogue and lead to the loss of power for all of the other 3599 Green Lanterns, including Adam 4715. This was, of course, a serious matter for all Green Lanterns, but for Adam who was away from his homeworld aiding in a diplomatic matter at the time, this meant that he would both miss his appointment with the volcano to give birth to his son and if he were ever able to reproduce he would be the first Adam in over 12,000 years to produce a son devoid of the teachings of his fathers. Yes, Hal Jordan sacrificed himself to restart the star around which his birth world orbits but that is just as self serving as the theft of the power of the Green Lanterns; not a sacrifice that redeemed the human in Adams eyes. For Adam, Hal Jordon is a name that could be cursed for the rest of eternity or at least as long as he happens to live.

Respect for Life
Because of the respect for life that his forefathers before him have developed and instilled in him though the now lost Power Ring they shared, Adam is restricted in some circumstances by his own beliefs. First, he feels that those who have power have a responsibility over those with less, to provide protection or simply to not trample them. Secondly, because of the fact that any life taken affects all life, he cannot kill lightly; note, he will kill when it is appropriate and unavoidable (for example, he is not an herbivore and so he will kill animals for food, but he does so with respect and only kills what he needs to do more would be wasteful). These beliefs make him a good fit for the Green Lantern Corps, but they still restrict his actions, especially when dealing with other sentients.

While Adam will kill for food, food animals are not sentient and thus part of their purpose in life is to provide food for other animals (including people). This is not true of sentient creatures or even if there is a way to get his protein without killing (hard to do on his home world, not so hard in Galactic society). In such situations he would avoid killing at all costs with the only clear cut situation where killing is acceptable being where a known killer had just killed in front of him and was likely to do so again in such a situation Adam would be able to kill without hesitation, however, even then he would be wracked by guilt over it afterwards.

Skills/Non-Terrestrial
Adams broad reaching skills reflect knowledge about places, events, things and technology at a galactic scale and so do not apply fully to any one world. Those that are specialized are typically very narrow and thus not limited in this way. This limitation is especially true of Earth, of which he has little knowledge outside of his (and his ancestors) brief interactions with the heroes of that world: the traitorous Hal Jordan, the lewd Guy Gardner and the oft moody John Stewart.
