Nerat Weyr Rules

Nerat Weyr operates with permission from Anne McCaffrey.
Last Update: 11th November 2004

These are the basic rules (as provided by Anne McCaffrey) regarding Pern RPGs.
  1. There will be no use of any charcters from Anne McCaffrey's books
(i.e. no F'lar, no Lessa, no Moreta, no Sean or Sorka)

  2. There is no religion, no magic and no war on Pern.

  3. There are no cross-overs with any other universes (whether created by Anne McCaffrey or any other person). So, leave Luke Skywalker and his light saber at home.

  4. The only dragons permitted are the standard five colors, Gold, Bronze, Brown, Blue and Green. Sorry, no white dragons like Ruth and no off colors, like red or purple.

  5. Gold dragons only impress to women and Bronzes only impress to men.

  6. Main locations from the books are off limits. No use of Benden Weyr or Ruatha Hold. Fort Weyr (from Moreta) and Telgar (from Dragonseye) are iffy, as well as Half Circle Seahold and Honshu Weyrhold.

  7. Absolutely no fanfiction or poetry, whether you are quoting from the books or making up your own. This is an RP list anyhow, so you really shouldn't have to ask :)

These are the Nerat Weyr Rules.
  1. Gold Dragons impress only to straight females. Players of gold riders should pay particular attention to rules 10, 12 and 14.

  2. Bronze Dragons impress only to males. Since every able bronze in the weyr rises when a Gold takes flight, bronze riders are not homosexual. But since bronze may also chase the Greens of male riders, limited bisexuality is permitted.

  3. Brown Dragons impress only to males. There are no female brown riders. All sexual preferences are permitted.

  4. Blue Dragons impress mostly to males. There are very few female blue riders and applications for them will be reviewed closely.

  5. Green Dragons impress males or females. All sexual preferences are permitted.

  6. Candidates come from every craft, hall and weyr.
Weyrbred candidates can start standing when they are 12. They are encouraged to apprentice themselves to a craft if they do not impress after 2 years. If they wish to continue to stand after their 17th birthdays, they *must* be engaged also in craftwork.
Hold and craftbred candidates are not usually searched prior to their 14th birthday.
The oldest a candidate may be to stand is 25 and only with two search dragon affirmations past the 21 turn.

  7. Crafts accept both boys and girls as apprentices, and the holds often foist children off on crafts to ease crowding. Apprentices are accepted from the age of nine.
It usually takes several years to achieve enough skill to walk the tables and become a journeyman, so journeymen are usually over 18 and most are at least 20.
Mastery in a craft takes several more years of study as well as work in a number of holds. Masters must be at least 27. Benefit is given to those over 31 turns.
Very few females remain in the crafts beyond senior apprentice rank.

  8. Holders are almost exclusively male. The exceptions are when a holder dies unexpectedly and there is no obvious male successor. The wife or an older daughter may take over during this time, but they will likely be replaced as soon as a male is approved or comes of age.
Major holders must be approved by a conclave of their peers and must be of the blood. Most prospective holders are at least 27 years with an established family.
Only in extenuating circumstances are younger, unattached persons given consideration. Holding is contingent upon the holder's ability to work his land and any holder who cannot provide a proper portion of their harvest to their Lord Holder will be considered for replacement.

  9. Nerat_Weyr uses a date system in the form of *day.month*. The date of ICposts must be at the beginning of the subject (after Re: in replies). Any new dates must be approved by a moderator prior to posting.
Pern has 13 months of 28 days and 367 days a turn (year). The three extra days are Turnover One, Two and Three, abbreviated TO1, TO2 or TO3. They fall between the 13th and first months.

  10. Posting is very lenient - if your character is not involved in an active thread, you do not have to post for him/her with regularity. However, if another member tags your character, you should respond within a real time week.
If you continually abandon threads for a long time without notice, you and your characters will be placed on 'hiatus' to warn other members that talking to you may or may not receive a reply.
Neglected gold dragons and their riders will become NPCs after one warning.

  11. Tags are very important due to the lenient posting requirements. Please put the name of any character you expect to reply in the subject of your post. If you are replying to a post, remember to add the originating character(s) name(s) to the subject.
For example: If N'len is visiting Dark River Seahold and wants an audience with the holder, the subject might be "Visiting TWSh < attn Holder >". The reply would then add K'len to the tag - "Re: Visiting WSh < attn Holder/K'len >".
Replying to a post that you were not tagged for is perfectly acceptable, just please remember to make sure that all interested parties get named in the subject.

  12. Mating flights should be tentatively scheduled with me (or the BoD, if I ever figure out a way to establish one). This is important for Golds because the consequences can be fatal if two rise together. Greens are not so jealous of each other, but their riders do seem to get cranky.
The Bronzes of the weyr blood their kills before a Gold rises. If your Gold is going to rise, please borrow a NPC or two to set up the pre-flight action. This gives other Gold riders the opportunity get their queens out of the weyr as well as allows bronze riders to get their dragons in the game.

  13. NPCs are Non Played Characters. They fill necessary positions when no one actually wants to play that character. When an NPC is needed (such as the weyr healer if Arjai falls down and breaks his arm), the player needing the character may play him or ask someone else to temp the character.
NPCs are listed in the databases at the Yahoo! Group.

  14. All players who wish to play a gold rider must also have another character. This additional character must be active to show that you can handle the responsibility of a gold rider.

  15. Rules are subject to change, but any alterations will be announced on both the OOC and IC board.
These are the Rules regarding firelizards and whers.
    On flits:
  1. We will have limited numbers of fire lizards at Nerat Weyr. Only characters from Nerat, Ista and Southern Boll will be permitted to have flits in the future. A rider *may* find a small clutch once in a great while at my discretion. These will be handed out by lottery.

  2. No character may have more than two flits, ever. Characters having one flit will be subject to increased scrutiny and characters having two flits will be subject to strict scrutiny.

  3. Flits must be RPed. If your character has a flit and you never mention it, you will be warned and then your flit will go wild and never return.

  4. No character may have both a gold and bronze flit.
    On whers:
  1. There will be no whers at Nerat Weyr. All characters with whers must be residents of a Hold or Hall. Candidates who have whers must transfer impression prior to coming to the Weyr.

  2. Gold whers and their owners will be NPCs.

  3. A character may not have more than one wher.

  4. True wher names end in -sk. The beginning of their name is similar to their owner's name (Jonsis might have wher Josk or Jonsk or Jonsisk). How similar the names are details how close the connection is.

  5. A wher for a major Hold always takes it's name from the Hold (the wher at Nerat Hold would be Neratsk).

  6. Whers must be RPed or they will transfer impression to a new owner.
    On dual ownership:
  1. Gold riders may not have gold or bronze flits.

  2. Bronze riders will very RARELY have a metallic flit.

  3. Wher owners may have up to two flits.
