Nerak timidly says, "Hello, who can I talk to if I want to learn to be a healer?

Jaqui is bendt over her desk, muttering crossly at the hides before her, just poking at them with her writing stick.  She really is in a bad mood tonight and doesn't know what to do to h get her work done.  She looks up from her work, trying to not show her crossness and wonders who this person is that came into her fofice.  "I'm sorry, who are you?"

Nerak nervously says, "I am terribly sorry if I interrupted your work, it's just that I am new to this hold, and have been talking to many people.  My name is Nerak, and I would like to be a healer!  Or, would like a chance to try. "

OOC: Jaqui notes two things, one I'm playing Jaqui as she is ICly, normally she isn't like this, but she's rather upset right now.  Two /usually/ it is polite to page and ask for an interview before just a walking in and asking ICly ;) I'm trying to see if I can find a staff to do it, so that ICly Jaqui doesn't bite your head off ;)

Jaqui gives a big sigh and sets aside her writing stick.  She taps the desk top for a moment, trying to think which of her staff might be free to do an interview.  She realizes shes in a foul mood and really doesn't want to convey this to the potential apprentice.

Nerak OOC: Sorry, I am new to this, I just thought that this is the way I would do it in RL, and couldn't find a secretary or anything.  Can I mail you?

OOC: Jaqui laughs, it is ok, I'm easy going, just letting you know for future a d that others might not appreciate it

Nerak shyly says, "Oh, is that your firelizard?  It is so pretty!  I have always admired them from afar."

OOC: Jaqui blinks, oh! nevrmind, I'm spacy

Nerak OOC:I have been told that you are the best to talk to, and since I saw you online, I thought I'd ask you.

OOC: Jaqui nods and gr4ins, I am good to talk to :) usually though you page to make sure someone is free to RP first ;)

You notice Jaqui looking at you.

Nerak OOC: I appreciate the help.  I really am not this annoying in RL! :)

Nerak stands nervously while noticing the "look over"

Jaqui picks up her writing stick and taps it on her desk while she thinks, having troubles concentrating on what it is she is trying to figure out, perhaps that is the problem without eating as well as one should be, especially when one is 7 months pregnant almost

Elehu quietly walks in from the Healer Center.

Elehu pokes her head in the door quickly, hazel eyes darting about just a little before spotting Jaqui... and blinking.  "Is this a bad time?" she asks in her usual soft, brisk voice.  "I was just visiting from High Reaches and I'd wanted to ask... well, no, never mind.  I'll be here a few days still."


You notice Elehu looking at you

Jaqui glances towards the firelizard as he pops between, it wasn't one of her rascles, but that doesn't surprise her either.  She turns towards Elehu and waves her into the office, "No no, come in, You want to interview," she looks again at Nerak, "What did you say your name was again?"

Nerak tries to blend into the wall to stay out of the conversation.

Willow blinks in from ::between::!

You say, "I'm sorry to be a bother, to just walk in like this, it must be my excitement!  I am Nerak."

Elehu smiles hesitantly at Jaqui and gives her a quick nod, though she does give the crafthead a thoughtful look.  "Uh... interview?  Yes, I can do that."  She blinks once before glancing at Nerak a little more closely, giving the young woman what she hopes is an encouraging smile.  "Hello there, Nerak.  I'm Elehu, visiting from High Reaches.  You want to join the craft I take it?" She wasn't exactly going to interview a firelizard, was she?

Nerak nervously says "Nice to meet you. Yes, I do want to be a healer!  I lived alone with my father for a long time, and took care of him.  After he died, I came to the hold, and feel that I'd like to try to take care of others."

Jaqui gives a thankful not to Elehu and picks up the writing stick to examine it and then go back to applying it with force towards the hides, muttering at them continually under her breath, glad she doesn't have to worry about biting the potential appy's head off.

Nerak wonders if the interview should be done in another room to not irritate Jaqui.

OOC: Bully says, "Quick! Run before the Jaqui-monster gets you!"
OOC: Jaqui grabs Bully and sits on him

Nerak OOC: I understand, but am trying to keep in character - would you like to be interviewed with someone who is VERY powerful, and in a VERY bad mood???!!!

Nerak OOC: Oh no, squashed Bully!

OOC: Elehu says "Sorry for the wait, I had to answer the phone."

OOC: Jaqui falls off her chair laughing and notes her office is pretty big ;) you can go off to the setting chairs and be away from the muttering one ;) and she's not in a bad mood at you ;)

OOC: Bully is smashed. So much for 'Do no harm!'...

Willow OOC What I could tell you about pregnant women...

Elehu peers at Jaqui, but quickly waves Nerak over to the corner of the room. The far one.  Way over there.  "We'll just take a seat, these things don't take long."  She herself takes one of the padded chairs for now.

OOC: Jaqui giggles and notes it isn't the pregnancy either making her in a bad mood, it is the fact that her mate picked up and moved half way across the continent

Nerak moves over to the FAR end of the room, at the seats with Elehu. "Ok, how do we start this?  I have to admit I am nervous..."

Jaqui continues to mutter at the hides in front of her, but has passed off the interview and so is fully concentrating on the work in front of her rather then the interview going on

Elehu smiles softly, her hands folded neatly in her lap.  "Oh, no need to be nervous.  We just like to be sure that this craft is /really/ what you want before we formalize anything.  For instance, you mentioned a little bit about why you've come to the Healer Hall today.  You wanted to help people, is that right?  Anything beyond that?"

Nerak is inwardly glad that Jaqui is not paying attention to their interview...

Bully drops down from his perch and flies..whoops! Correction.. Bully falls off his perch and plummets straight down, landing right on Jaqui's desk amoungst all the hide. As he tries to get up he scatters hides to the floor and crumples others.

Willow hides his head in his wing, shamed at his pet's choice of friends...

Nerak smiles "Well, I have met some people in the hold, one is a student here, and was telling me about her classes.  I just somehow feel "called" to heal, I know that sounds weird, but I just have always wanted to be a healer, though I have never met one, and never before I came to this hold, knew that this craft was a possibility!"

Nerak  quietly giggles at the antics of the firelizards...

Jaqui gives a sigh and tries to shoo Bully, "Come on," she whines at the 'lizard, "You are making a mess of my hides!" she reaches up and taps his skin with her writing stick, "You aren't helping me get done with this work," she tells him in a fierce whisper, trying not to disturb the interview now in progress.

Nerak explains "My father and I never really left our cave.  We were not near any holds, and he had established a deal with a wandering salesman to deliver all of our supplies"

OOC: Nerak pets can be sooo demanding, certainly understandable! :-)

Elehu smiles again at Nerak and nods.  "Yes, I can certainly imagine," she replies.  "How long have you lived at the Hold here?  Did you do anything before coming here?  Jobs, hobbies... anything?"


Bully finally gets up and launches off the edge of the desk to go back to perching beside Willow.

Jaqui sighs and shakes her head at Bully and then bends back over the hides, trying to get them back in their pre-scattered order so she can continue with the work she was doing.

You say, "My father just died a few months ago.  When the supplier came to the cave to make his delivery, as he always does, he helped me to get here.  He told me that Ista Hold was a wonderful place to live, and I got here about a week or so ago.  I had to learn several things to take care of my father, so I guess I am a "Jack of all trades.""

You say, "Or would that be a "Jill" of all trades!!"

Elehu chuckles softly, leaning back as she crosses one leg over the other. "That's always a good thing, Nerak.  And now you want to hone your abilities in the Healing area, excellent.  Enthusiasm is always fantastic.  However, just to be sure... do you know what you're getting into?"  She smiles curiously, somewhere between nostalgic and encouraging.  "What sorts of responsibilities do you suppose a Healer has?"

Nerak ENTHUSIASTICALLY says "I know that they man, or woman as the case may be, the infirmaries, to help people who walk in hurt.  I also know that there are MANY herbs and such that do many things - I had to use several with my father, preparing them and such.  After taking care of my father for so long, I certainly know the amount of time it takes!"

Elehu grins a little bit, nodding along the way.  "Indeed.  Sometimes being a Healer means agreeing to be called at any time of the day or night, not to mention hours, well, Turns actually of study before you really start delving into the workings of the craft.  But all worth it, if you ask me."  She smiles softly for a moment, hazel eyes glimmering just a bit.  "Actually, on that note... just what is it you hope to do eventually as a Healer?  Any specialties in mind yet?  Any particular places?  Or... well, anything really; any goals other than earning a journeyman's knot?"  Like her own.

Nerak smiles "Well, I have always had a special affinity for children and animals.  I certainly do know the time it takes.  My father was very ill at the end.  I don't have many other goals other than learning as much as I can, and (hopefully) being able to help other people.  I know that many are suffering, and I'd like to help if I can."

Elehu leans forward, elbows resting on one knee casually.  "Indeed there are, and only so many Healers to go around...  Now, you mentioned herbs earlier, did you not?  Any other skills you already posses that might be helpful in a Healer's walk of life?"

Nerak  settles more comfortably in her chair "Yes, the supply man gave me many scrolls about herbs, and my father taught me well how to read and understand them.  I, as a child, was always bringing injured animals home and trying to heal them.  Splinting legs, salving cuts, and feeding orphaned babies.  Those were my hobbies, I guess, as a child"

You say, "He also brought me many healing scrolls, so I could better help my "patients".  He was like an uncle to me!"

Elehu reaches up behind her chair and turns on the psychedelic, rainbow-colored OOC lamp.  "All right, the next part of this is totally OOC (Out of Character), so just sit back and relax.  We're just chatting now." :)

You say, "okey dokey!"

Elehu says, "Now... have you had any experience with the Pern version of a Healercraft before?  Either Harper's Tale or another Pern M**."

You say, "no, have not done any other online RPG's - just w/other people, kind of like dungeons & dragons, but other characters."

You say, "I was a (Star Trek) Starfleet medic."

Elehu nods quickly and grins.  "Quite all right.  Are you familiar with Pern though and it's rather... shall we say, basic forms of Healing?"

You say, "Yes, I introduced my daughter to the series several years ago, and now she can't get enough of it!  I had to re-read the series to keep up with her!"

Elehu laughs.  "I still re-read them from time to time.  So many little details in those books.  Do you plan on ever applying Nerak for Search?"

You say, "Search as in dragonrider?  No.  I may end up making up another character for that if I so get the urge..."

Bully feels an Herbal Essence commercial coming on...
You say, "Calgon, take me away.......   :)"

Elehu nods.  "That's cool too.  But just in case you change your mind, there's a three month waiting period after joining the Healer craft before Nerak would be released to apply.  But, moving right along... any MOO coding experience by chance?  It's quite all right if you don't, we just like to ask."

You say, "sorry, can write a web page, but moo is noo to me!"

You say, "Sorry, just a little punny tonight.  I'm a little tired.  It's almost 1am here..."

Elehu says, "What sorts of online hours work best for you?  EST is fine.  Also, do you foresee any changes in that?"

You say, " am in EST, and that seems to be the best for me.  Sorry, the forseeing changes, is that in being punny, or the MOO coding?  I do plan on learning that."

Jaqui giggles, "No changes in your online times

You say, "Ok, yes.  I am learning about this moo thing, and it getting me around slowly.  I usually get on about 10pm EST when I do get on."

You say, "Of course, my daughter is reading over my shoulder - she wants to be a healer too (Musuko is her IC name...) and reminds me that we are sometimes on in the middle of the day too.  I have the summer off, and work school hours during the school year - so will be in the evenings then."

You say, "She is jealous that I am getting an interview!"
Elehu laughs.
Jaqui grins, well she has to get her character on ;)
You say, "She wants to know if she can just walk in and get an interview too! ;)"
I think I spoke with erh once, but our times were off..:> (Danna here..:>)
Jaqui laughs, umm let's try /paging/ first ;)

Elehu grins and asks her favorite question... no clue why it's my favorite, but here you go.  "What books of Anne McCaffery's Pern series have you read?  Do you have a favorite and why?"

You say, "She says she remembers you Sudanna and says hello""

You say, "OK, well I think I have read most of them!  I think I llike the whole harper hall series the best.  Menolly is my favorite character.  I think it was also the first book I read of the series!"

Elehu grins and nods.  "Excellent!"
Nerak  *oops there were alot of "I think"'s in that last sentence!  sorry about that!
Elehu laughs.  "Quite all right.  It's late."  ;)

Jaqui agrees it is late, she is nearly asleep at the keyboard, time I think to go out, take out the contacts and crawl into bed.

Willow waves, nods, bows and leaves,.. courteously, leaving Bully in the dust!

Elehu peeks about quickly and grins.  "Well now... I think that's it.  So after all this questioning, do you still want to join our motley craft?"  ;)

From afar, Jaqui grins, just remember, Jaqui /usually/ isn't grumpy ;) she's very friendly and helpful normally ;)

Elehu giggles.  I hope so, we're supposed to have good bedside manners anywa.

You say, "Is there a special class on bedside manners?  And handwriting??  I really am in the health field, and handwriting was a course - trying to figure out what the docs are writing... !"

Jaqui says, "Since it is so late we'll catch you for your oaths like tomorrow night or as soon as possible Nerak.  *giggle* what do you do in the health field?"

You say, "I am a physical therapist assistant - I work in the school system.  I get the kids out of their wheelchairs and get them doing exercises, or take them to PE class."

Jaqui says, "Cool, I'm a nurse"
