A Day in the Kitchens

Cl'fan shrugs dejectedly. "Well, I'm fresh out of wine. I think I shall go and acquire some more, or find out where the last lot is..Let me know if you come across a bundle of Benden red anywhere, would you?" After all, it's legally his. Legally in the sense of 'possession is nine tenths of the law', at least. Hauling himself to his feet, he bows lightly. He adds "Do have yourselves a good evening." and ambles out.

Eikera offers a cookie to K'chiko, too, eyeing her wound and paling slightly. "Feel free to just -- you know, throw that away or something, when you're done. No worries." Twitch, goes Kera, who then frowns after Cl'fan. "Aw. I wanted some wine, too." Just to feel special.

Rina walks into the kitchens, looking for a snack. She is taken aback at how many people she sees in the kitchens that had a similar idea. "Well, hello there!" She says as she walks in, trying to hide her surprise. She walks further into the kitchens as if she owns the place - and almost does with as much time as she used to put in here as assistant cook. She wanders around looking for the perfect snack food... "Can I help anyone while I'm looking around?"

Kaera sighs, her blush fading. Ah well. A nod is given to the new people, then a squeak and a tackle for Rina. "RINA!"

Ma'rx announces his arrival with a growl of the stomach, though he does offer waves of greetings to all these people too. "Let there be porridge," the brownrider declares. Then he peeks to Rina, because he knows her, and asks, "Do they still do the porridge, even when it's not exactly breakfast-type time?"

Rina looks at the faces now, not just the fact that there are so many people in the kitchens. "Ah, hello Keara!" She hugs the girl back. "And what are y'all doing in here? Can I find anything for you?" She chuckles as Ma'rx walks in.. "Ah... porridge? Yep, they keep it over here for just such an occasion." She winks at her fellow rider and clutchmate of her own dragon.. walks over to the pot on the stove and fills a bowl for Ma'rx then brings it over to him with a spoon and a napkin. "Anyone else?"

"See you later, Cl'fan... g'day Ma'rx. Rina," she greets cheerfully to the two entering riders. "How are Vokhanth and Melantath? Well, I hope? And I haven't seen you in a bit, Ma'rx; daresay you look handsome as usual," K'chiko lightly compliments, ambling to... take a huge hunk of a bite off her sandwich. "Porridge, Ma'rx? I don't know. Ask a cook or something. But I'm sure you can convince 'em to if you really, really pester them."

Kaera laughs, and takes out some meatrolls. "I got my food... Brought it for myself." she says, and pulls out some benden white wine. "Heh.. he didn't know I had some." she pours a mug for herself then laughs. "Want some?" she offers to the room.

Eikera finishes off her last cookie, dusting off her hand and going to pull Adelbert and the meatroll. "Eat up, brat." He takes a bite -- of the meatroll, and of Eik's finger. "Ow. Don't eat /that/ -- bah." The others are eyed in agitation, and the offendind hand and lizard are promptly pocketed again. "We have to go." Fix her hand, and kill the lizard. Ahem. "Nice to see everyone." And then, off she goes, muttering irritably under her breath.

Rina grins at K'chiko "And hello to you too, K'chiko. Yes, Mel is doing well. She really enjoyed the swim yesterday at the lake! How is Shujoth? He seemed to enjoy himself as well." She grins as she has already taken care of Ma'rx's order, as if she was still working the kitchens! She watches as Kaera pulls out some meat rolls and takes one of the offered meat rolls. She then goes around cutting bread and wherry meat and makes herself a sandwich, making sure to put on plenty of mustard. Once said sandwich is made, she puts it on a plate and walks back over to where the others are eating. She grabs a mug and pours herself some of the offered wine as well. "Ah... thank ye!" That old accent must be coming back with the reminders of the kitchens! "Oh, I hope the poor girl 'l be alright!" She says, watching Eikera leave with the bleeding finger...

"Oh, Khan's wonderful as always. We just went for an amazingly long flight, he insisted on it, and now he's actually tired enough that he's almost pleasant to be around." The slightest little grin implies that Ma'rx is, sort of, teasing about the last bit. "And thanks, Chiko, y'know I get all prettied up just for you." Making sure to be well out of the way of the leaving girl, he follows the advice given him, going to pester cooks, while generally peeking into any pots he can see.

K'chiko cinches the ribbon Eikera lent her around her hand, a little tighter, to put on pressure, but despite the bit of pain that causes, she smiles fondly at the younger brownrider. "Well, aren't you a sweetie, Ma'rx. Did you have fun? Where did you go, pray tell?" she inquires, getting up and strolling over. "Telgar does have some spectacular scenery... i ought to go flying with Shujoth, again. We don't get to do so much of that, lately."

Rina grins, "Mel and I 'ave been flyin' a lot lately too... Though she don't fly so far that she gets tired... I wonder if she /ever/ gets tired o' flyin'. I tend to doubt it! Hehe... We've been working out wi' the emergency team, flyin' wi' them, and trainin' to do that. I ne'er knew how difficult emergency trainin' was!" She shakes her head and takes a bite of her sandwich in the mean time..

Ma'rx wasn't looking for porridge. He was looking for a spoon. Yes. So, once this is acquired, he dips it into the bowl that Rina so kindly gave him, takes a bite, hisses at the heat of it, swallows, and goes back to the conversation. "We had an awful lot of fun. It was hard work, I'm almost as tired as Khan, which is saying a lot, 'cause he's the one who was doing all the flying. And y'know, if you an' Shujoth ever want to come along with us, feel free. I'll try not to let Khan push physical limits too hard, seein' as someone else'll be along. We could make it like a date or somethin', even." And his eyebrows are wriggled K'chiko's way.

Rina rolls her eyes... you'd think he was a /green/ rider with the way he talks... wait... /she/ is a greenrider... She still isn't quite used to that! "So, you just flyin' to fly? Mel and me like to do that too. I ne'er realized how much fun flyin' was!" She grins around as she sips her wine and eats her sandwich.

K'chiko giggles slightly at Ma'rx's suggestion. How sweet. After removing the ribbon- the blood's pretty much stopped, now- she hums in contemplation. "I could do that. Shujoth's in need of some good flying-around-for-no-reason-at-all. A flying date... now there's a concept for you!" She yanks off a few bites of the sandwich she's been leaving around. Yummy.

Ma'rx sticks his tongue out lightly at Rina, good-naturedly, of course. And there are only a few bits of porridge on it. "Nah, it's not like I flirt with -everyone-. Just K'chiko, 'cause she's that special little something to me." The spoon is dumped into the bowl so that he has a free hand to pat over his heart. "And we don't just fly to fly. We fly to," and here Ma'rx drops his voice as low as it'll go without cracking, to imitate his dragon, "keep in shape and be at our physical best, lest an emergency arise where we are needed." A cough, he regains his own tone, and adds, "Or something of the sort." Then, to K'chiko, "So good, it's a plan, then?"

Rina is feeling a bit of hte 'third wheel' syndrome. She rolls her eyes at Ma'rx and takes a bite of her sandwich... it really is delicious if she does say so herself... "Ah, yeah, that sounds a lot like Mel. We 'ave to keep our girlish figures afterall!" She shakes her head again, wishing B'neron was here...

"Impeccable, Ma'rx!" laughs K'chiko after another itty-bitty bite of sandwich; Ma'rx's Vokhanth impression does crack her up some. "At least, that's what Shujoth tells me. Yep, it's a plan, Mel." This directed to the brownrider nearby, of course. Ambling over, she sidles up next to Ma'rx with a silly little grin upon her face. "Just us two, up there all the way above Telgar Weyrhold, with the wind smacking in our faces and our dragons going all over the place. Romantic, ain't it?" the woman jokes.

Ma'rx rolls his eyes just a little. "It's romantic, just in a special way," he attempts to explain. "In a sort of... I dunno. Useful way, maybe." And his throat is cleared briefly before he peeks back at Rina. "Oh, yes, can't lose the girlish figure. I've sort of lost mine, I'm afraid," and he attempts to pinch some looser skin around his torso, not succeeding all that well, "sort of traded it in for non-descript. Sad, but true."

Rina rolls her eyes at the pair... She drinks -no gulps- down more of the Benden wine, really missing Ben. She is not sure he ever really knew that she /liked/ him... but she is sure feeling it now that he is weyrlord and not around much anymore... she enjoyed just showing up in his weyr and teasing him about the ... statues... guarding his doorway. She chuckles as Ma'rx talks about loosing his girlish figure. "Ma'rx... you still have your... figure anyways! You have barely an ounce of fat on ye! Yer not a tad fat!" She grins.

K'chiko pouts ever-so-slightly. It can't be that unfortunate to lose one's girlish figure, if you're not a girl. "Oh, come on. You look nice n' handsome without it, /I/ think. Weyrlinghood definitely kicked you into shape." Her blue-violet gaze slides to Rina, then. "I know I couldn't afford to lose mine, a'course. All my work- I have to be on my toes a lot to do it, and believe me it's exhausting." Mmm. Sandwich. Chomp.

"But I used to be -pretty-," Ma'rx insists Rinawards. "Y'know. It's just something you start to miss, when no one mistakes you for a girl in a while. I mean, it's good, but still. You meet the most interesting people that way. And it's fun to watch 'em get all uncomfortable." And at the end of his reminiscing, he attempts to flex a not-entirely-there muscle, for the other brownrider's benefit of course. "What's that, keepin' you on your toes, the Weyrling bits or the healing of dragons? You still do those, right?"

Rina chuckles at 'Chiko's thought of Ma'rx loosing his girlish figure. With the mouth full of food she has, she almost chokes, but takes another sip of her wine and swallows it all down. "I'm sure it is tiring, K'chiko. I was considering weyrhealin', but you seemed to have so many students that I thought there'd be too many. So... I ended up in emergency rescue. It's a lot of fun... those guys like to play pranks, y'know." She comes a lot closer to choking at Ma'rx's comment. "You /liked/ being mistaken fer a girl? I didn't know that..." Strange...

"So many students? Cripes, Rina, I've only got one or two. That's why I sometimes have to call in Cl'fan to help me, since he nicely offered to a while ago. And yes, it does keep me on my toes a lot... although with the coming of the next clutch we've got here, with Rajalath and Eshaleth, I'll be working as assistant weyrlingmaster on top of that." K'chiko smiles lightly, then switches the subject to touch on that, too. "Eh. My uncle- he's a healer over at Igen- used to get mistaken for a girl so much when he was a boy, but he's filled out methinks." And... we have another sandwichy bite! Yay.

Ma'rx manages to remember his porridge, what with all the biting of sandwiches going on, and takes a few spoonfuls of that now that it's cooled down some. "Assistant weyrlingmaster, hmm? I should see if y'guys need help. Can you imagine, Vokhanth getting his talons into some lazy weyrling? Mwah!" And Ma'rx actually manages to sound vaguely evil, which he rarely accomplishes. "But yeah, it was... I dunno, the attention is nice sometimes. Granted it's embarrassing but... it's almost an interested social study, y'know. Some sort of psycho-therapy type thing." He shrugs, not quite able to explain his position to Rina any better than that.

Rina looks over at K'chiko, "Oh... the day I stood at the back of the infirmary to join... there were a /lot/ of students. Or, at least I thought they were students. If'n ye need another student... one willin' to learn fast and well, I'll 'elp ye out. I've wanted to be a 'ealer since I was a kidlet, but ne'er had the chance to do it, other than on the critters that lived near us..." She grins up at K'chiko with a bit of a reddish tinge on her face - could be the wine? hmmm.... She shrugs her shoulders at Ma'rx, "I suppose that would be quite interestin'."

"Seeing as I'm the only full-fledged dragonhealer around here, yes, I could use the help." This does take a bit of pondering beforehand, though. "Would you like to be a dragonhealer trainee, Rina? I may possibly be able to fit you in... there's Alisha, she's already well over halfway done with her training, and I'm still not sure if Zave or Andraya are my students or not," K'chiko explains to the greenrider, stepping towards her just a few feet. "I could very well take you on if you wish."

Ma'rx manages to get a faintly sappy expression on his face. Something about the possible initiation of dragonhealers, just touches a guy's heart. "Didn't know Zave was gettin' into that," he comments to no one in particular, going for a few more scoops of his porridge.

Rina nods, "Well, the emergency team was rather fun... but I think I would benefit them better if I were better trained. Yep, Ma'am, I'd love to join yer classes! I'd need to talk to the team, though, to let 'em know I won't be around fer a bit...." She looks out the kitchen door as if she could see the team leader. "Yep, I need to tell 'im. She looks over at Ma'rx, yep, I didn't think Zave was one to be a 'ealer m'self! She allays was a loner." She bites at her sandwich distractedly.

Hrm. A semi-surprised look develops on K'chiko's features. "Oh, nonono. S'not like that. You still work with the search and rescue team, but on your other time, you take lessons from me," she clarifies, "because your main priority is to search and rescue. And all I can teach you is only useful for injured dragons, not injured people, though I do suppose some of it might be applied to human healing if you have the know-how." She knows precious little of /that/. To Ma'rx, another smile. "Mm-hmm. I was surprised, myself."

Ma'rx tilts his head faintly to Rina's comment, nodding in the end. "I suppose, yeah, a bit... I liked her, though. Haven't seen her properly in a long time, come to think of it..." And, of course, Ma'rx can't help but insert a vaguely smart remark into the conversation: "And y'know, yeah. I mean, people injure tails and wings all the time, right? It's just carry-over." Now to finish the porridge, with much spoon clanking against he sides of the bowl.

Rina nods at K'chiko. "Ah, that's 'ow it works, eh? I'm sure they'd be 'appy for me to 'ave the knowledge. I suppose I should be learnin' some human healin' as well... maybe after the dragonhealing. Sounds good! I'll just 'ave to find m'self a healer to teach me some classes too." She holds her wine mug up to K'chiko for a toast. "Sounds real good!" She grins. When Ma'rx makes his comment, she grins, "Yep, and some people have the same /breath/! She giggles at her cleverness... that wasn't directed to anyone in the room... nope.

"I'm sure Riyan might be able to teach you, or if he can't... you could probably ship over to Igen n' ask my uncle. Kind of cumbersome, I guess, but it might work; I learned my dragonhealing from Sina over there while I worked on the search and rescue team, myself. And if he doesn't let you, I'll pester him to do it!" Because K'chiko can, darnit.

Rina grins at K'chiko. "Good idea, 'Chiko! I think I'll do that. I'll learn from you first, then to to yer uncle. Sounds like a plan!" She chuckles and finishes off her sandwich, but not before re-filling her mug of wine. "So, ye were in the Search and rescue as well?"

Ma'rx finishes the porridge, and sets the bowl in the appropriate place, because that's the right thing to do. Trying not to be too impressed by the force that is Chiko, and the eagerness that is Rina, he nods to each of them, notes, "I'll be heading, then, 'cause Khan'll want to do some sort of target practices or leg conditioning or something. And I'll see you 'round, Rina, and Chiko we'll come and get you for the flying date one day. Right. Bye."
