Beach Party!
Barashiith moves his head to snuffle at K'chiko, then Rina before crooning to Melantath and giving Shujoth a welcome.
Rina grins towards K'chiko and Kaera as she dismounts Melantath. She pats Mel while removing the riding straps then lets her loose to swim. Melantath says her hellos to everyone, then whomps down the beach and into the water.
Barashiith wades into the waters of the lake.
Kaera waves to K'chiko and Rina. "Hello!" she calls, "Kyu! Rina! How've you two been doing?" she asks, and meanders over, giving a bow to Shu, then to Mel.
"Shujoth, no, you /don't/ need a bath yet," K'chiko protests to her dragon, lumbering ahead of her sans-straps and submerging into the lake waters. "... oh, fine. I'll have to oil you again, though." With the smallest brown in the Weyrhold, it's an easier task than it could be, but it still bites. "Have fun." Leaving Shujoth off to do his thing, K'chiko grins. "Rina! Kaera! Pleased to see you two again." Hee hee.
Shujoth wades into the waters of the lake.
Rina grins and waves at Kaera and K'chiko while patting Shujoth and then Barashiith on their necks. "I'm doing alright..." She doesn't mention that she is depressed that /her/ B'neron just managed to make Weyrlord... "It is great to see you again too! So... what's new?"
Melantath wades into the waters of the lake.
Melantath> Mmmm. Water. Cool water. Oh, it's not like Shujoth doesn't put up with cold for most of his life, but cool is still good. << Comforting >> comes the message from his mind, laden with fresh incense. << Cool and comforting. >>
Kaera gives Kyu a hug, then winks to Rina. "How's Melantath doing lately?" Glance to green. "She looks healthy." Suddenly she hugs Rina, then plops on the beach. "I made Assistant Weyrling Master.." Shows off shiny new knot!!
"All's well. Kind of sad that old R'vahan had to leave the post of Weyrlord, but I suppose it's good for him, 'cause he HATED Selia, if I remember. Plus Rav n' I can do a lil' bit of surfing down at Paradise, now." K'chiko probably doesn't mention this much, but the ex-Weyrlord and herself have an ongoing rivalry when it comes to surfing. "Assistant Weyrlingmaster? Oooh. Kaera, we have far too much in common." Cue a showing-off of her own knot, a combination of Telgar AWLM and senior dragonhealer. Lookit all the black, white, purple, and brown! Perdy. "How're the Weyrlings? N' Aunt Shava? I suspect she's giving you a good deal of work with the little buggers."
Rina looks in surprise to Kaera, then the knot... "Wow! Everyone is being promoted! That is wonderful! Wow... Assistant Weyrling Master... "Yeah, Mel is well, though she hasn't risen yet... I was wondering if she was going to do it any time soon? I'm in no hurry though!" She chuckles nervously.
Melantath> Melantath rolls around luxuriously in the water, reveling in the coolness. <<nice!>> She watches as the two browns enter the water after her and she playfully splashes water on them with her tail. <<gotcha!>>
Kaera laughs, then looks over. "Well, at least you have two good browns to give chase if she does rise now!" poke poke. "They're doin well, and Shava is fine.. How's Ty?" pause, "And everyone else here I know?"
Melantath> Barashiith pauses, then dives completely underwater, and pops up on the other side of Melantath, blowing bubbles under her. <<Got you.>> Warm and direct, and yet soft, <<How are you two doing?>>
Rina looks at the two /female/ brown riders and wishes that B'neron was here... if she did go proddy now... Ok... she just wishes B'neron was here, period!
"Uncle's good. Last I hear, Shav's and his 'brat is... a feisty little five-Turn-old. Might take them up on foisting him off on me, since the two of them have such busy jobs." K'chiko sighs mildly. "But yeah. Should go down to Igen and see them." Rina's gaze is met with concern. "Melantath hasn't risen yet? There may be a serious developmental problem, Rina. She should have at least been in heat by now... I know there are late bloomers out there in the world of dragons, but all the greens out of your clutch I've noticed haven't gone up yet. It's rather disconcerting."
Kaera looks around, and puts her work away and waves to the others. "Come join us!" she calls and smiles. "Don't worry, WE'll not bite!" wink wink.
Rina watches Barashiith lumber up on the shore and chuckles as Melantath continues to swim in the lake, splashing any of the other dragons that happen to come near enough. She may be a green... but she's big and feisty! She loves to play splash. Rina watches on as Mel plays. She notices the newcomers and waves at them from her blanket. She is now sitting on her blanket on the lake shore.
Cl'fan nods to the two he knows, and drops what looks to be a curtsey to the others, but turns out to be him sitting on a hastily prepared towel, close enough to the water so as not to be on just mud, but far enough away to avoid being splashed. Or, at least, splashed too much. "Cl'fan, blue Falkirth, bringer of unsolicited vittles." True to his word, his ever-present bag is bulging with odd twists of light pastry, coated in brown sweetening.
Kaera smiles to Cl'fan, "Kaera, brown Barashiith, Assistant weyrling master at Igen, Kyu's crazy friend." she laughs, then winks. "Well met Cl'fan."
Rina grins as the introductions are made. "I'm Rina, and that Green out there splashing everyone is Melantath." She chuckles. "Well met Cl'fan! Oh... pastry!" She grins as she eyes the pastry.
Eikera stomps in from the beach, step faltering when she notices the crwod -- oh. Arr. "Arr." But there's Cl'fan, and something about pastries -- this, to Eikera, is enough to indicate there's nothing nefarious going on, so she drops her towel, kicks off her sandals, and prances her pink-swimsuited self towards the lake. Swimming. Woo!
Cl'fan nods appreciation of Rina's amazing skills of recognition. "Kaera, Rina. Freshly made pastry, no less." With an attempt at an ingratiating smile, he offers them around, although not before procuring two for himself.
"Cl'fan! 'Ey. Thanks for the help the other day," K'chiko quips, grinning at the bluerider. "Yvrinth was hell to keep calm without two dragons helping. Feisty blue, he." Kaera and Rina receive smiles, as well as Eikera, even though she hasn't quite met Eikera yet. Might as well do some greeting. "And... I prob'ly ought to say hi to you, too!" Whee! Socializing is one of Chiko's favorite things to do.
Kaera takes one with a big smile of thanks, then pulls out some wine from her bag. "I've got drinks to go with it!" she passes the skin around after pouring a mug full for herself. "Thanks for the pastry."
Rina grins over at Eikera as well, "Hello there. I'm Rina and that's Melantath, the green dragon in the water - watch out for her tail... she likes to splash!" She grins at Eikera to let her know that Mel won't hurt anyone... just soak them! She then turns to Cl'fan and smiles, "Mmmm, those look delish!" She takes of of hte offered pastries and pulls her mug out of her bag - "Wow, pastries adn wine! What a combination! I'll have some, thanks!" She pours herself some wine and passes it along to the next person.
With a broad grin, Cl'fan perpetrates his favourite trick, and produces a crystal glass from a pouch several times smaller. Wine is always welcome. "No problem, K'chiko. The petulant swimming teen is Eik..era. Eikera." He hides his face in his wine glass, just in case she heard his slip or saw his smile.
Eikera pauses mid-prance, looking a bit odd indeed. "Eh, what -- me?" She peers at K'chiko warily, then bobs her head. "Always polite to say hi to people -- so, err, hi. I'm Eik --" Eek indeed. She nearly tumbles over, as the one-legged standing gets a bit too awkward, then straightens up again, attempting to look dignified. Err. Cl'fan just gets a dirty look, before she smiles pleasantly in Rina's direction. "Eikera, that's right -- hi to you, too, Rina." Pause. "Wait -- I am /not/ petulant!" Really. Aheh.
Kaera laughs, and smiles. "Well met Eikera, I'm Kaera." she says, and winks. "I don't think you are... but if you wanna go swimming, stay near Bara, he'll let you dive off of him." she says, and chuckles as a rumble comes from the brown, rising from the water to wuffle towards the humans.
"Petulant? Naaah." K'chiko giggles, then sends a wave towards the frolicking-in-the-water Eikera. "H'lo, dear; I'm K'chiko, and that brown over there- the smaller one, not the bigger one from Igen- is Shujoth." Eyes flit back to the other riders. "Cripes. Igen grows their dragons HUGE, lately." Ah, well. "So. Surprised me that B'neron's Weyrlord; one day I'm teaching him and the Weyrling class, and the next day he's leader of the whole sharding Weyrhold. Strange."
Rina sighs, "Yes, B'neron is now weyrlord..." She quiets down... the normally talkative greenrider is quiet...
Kaera looks at Rina. "Fallen in love there Rina?" she asks, darting out of the way, not spilling her wine. "Yes, the dragons are pretty big... you should see my weyr!" she shakes her head. "Good thing my flits help me clean it!"
"Seems like a good choice. I only met him briefly, though. Youth can be a positive, y'know." Cl'fan hopes nobody notices his subsequent pondering as he tries to think of a situation where what he just said might be true.
Rina quickly looks up at Kaera, then back at her feet... "Is it that obvious?" She takes a large-ish sip of the wine. She looks up at Cl'fan "Yes, he's quite nice..." Then back to the wine.
"Kaera and K'chiko," Eikera recites, pointing at each one in turn as she wades backwards into the water. "And -- err, Bara is the big one, and Shujoth's the smaller one. Okay." She nods sharply, then falls on her back, floating lazily out into the lake. "I've never met B'neron," she calls, attempting to turn around so that she can look towards the shore. "What's he like?"
"Bennie's a good lad." It's kinda funny that she uses 'lad', perhaps, when the lad in question is more powerful at the moment than she is, but after all he was one of her weyrlings. "Probably not nearly as much of a slacker as R'vahan... Faranth, but I miss R'vahan. I haven't talked to him lately. Might go bug him this afternoon." K'chiko looks up almost expectantly towards said bronzerider's corner of the bowl- somewhere 'round where her weyr is.
Rina looks up, "Ben is really nice... Rajalath and Melantath are clutchmates, so we were weyrlings together... We spent a lot of time training together, and had a lot of parties!" She chuckles. "We were quite mischevious too!" When she realizes that she is babbling, nad all flushed in the face, she quiets down...
Barashiith puts one wing out under the girl, and looks into her face, eyes whirling happily. Kaera meanwhile shakes her head, and takes a gulp of wine, then winks at K'chiko. "Yes I can hold it better now." she mouths, smiling.
Falkirth bathes in a dignified manner, trying to distance himself from all that childish splashing and flailing, although he's quite prepared to give as good as he gets. Cl'fan stifles his amusement at that, and devours pastries. "Bennie, eh? I'll have to use that next time I meet him. So, how're the weyrlings at Igen getting on? Charming bunch, that."
"Weyrlords shouldn't be slackers, I'd hope," Eikera says at K'chiko, wading in the dragons' direction; Barashiith gets a noisy squeak, but Eik just keeps floatin'-along. "He's big." She's very astute.
Kaera laughs, and glares at Bara. "He'd never hurt anyone... don't worry.
Rina grins at the other riders, "I can remember a time where I woulnd't go /anywhere/ near the water if there was a dragon near.... I was terrified of dragons. But, Melantath cured me of that!" She chuckles and looks over at Mel, who is now floating on her back in the water, wings out to the side of her, but still ready to splash with that tail if need be.
"Yeah, I remember when Elsiana and I had to drag you out," laughs K'chiko. "Suppose that was all for the better, though." Streeeetchflop. The brownrider goes on her back.
Rina laughs, "Ok... You and Elsi started me towards getting used to dragons... but Mel cured me!" She shakes her head at the memory. Two riders carrying her out and dropping her in the bowl, watching her cringe as hte two dragons sniffed her. "I can't believe I was that scared... but I did have a good reason, then anyways..." She looks over at Melantath, who is still just floating in the water - though she is keeping her eye on the others... She lays back on her blanket and falls asleep.
Eikera floats away from Barashiith, now, attempting to control her movement with idle waves of her arms and legs. "Dragons are just scary because they're big," comes her eventual statement, though she doesn't sound particularly concerned. "And I'm not. Things that are bigger than me are annoying." Arr.
With a flick of his wrist, Cl'fan withdraws the last pastry, eating it whole. After a brief period of rapid chewing, he's ready to talk again, which he does. "Dragons aren't all that scary, if you know them."
Kaera nods. "I totally agree..." wistful glance to the green. "I almost wish I had a green... I can't get a guy otherwise!" she laughs. "Ehh, oh well. I get to flirt with all the green riders." she winks at K'chiko. "No Bara I'd not trade you for a green!"
"I don't have to worry about guys much around here," K'chiko snorts. "It's usually their problem, not mine." The brownrider kicks up one leg and crosses it over the other. "I'm sure there are some nice fellows at Igen, Kaera. M'nster, bronze Demonth's rider- he's one of the assistant weyrlingmasters there- is pretty creepy sometimes around me, but he's pretty cute otherwise. Os'kir's too old for you...
St'le's got a weyrmate, although he's slept with all the girls in my weyrling class by now, I think, and yes, that does include me..." Not afraid to kiss and tell, if you know what I mean. "T'ea's okay, I think, and I hear his brown Hotohorith acts almost exactly like Shujoth does... and the bronzeriders are generally all okay." Teehee. She knows people!
Kaera blinks at K'chiko. "You just know everyone don't you?" she asks a bit exasperated. "I'd like to find a guy with a green who I can keep to myself." she says, then laughs. "Are there any male greenriders?" A sudden playful glint in her eyes, "Put in a good word for me to some of them ok?" she asks K'chiko, knowing she probably will now..
Cl'fan struggles to avoid commenting on the discussion, and tries not to draw attention to it. His bag, now empty, is returned to his belt, and his glass has vanished back into whatever recess it was secreted in before.
Kaera looks at Cl'fan. "Oh!" blush! "S... Sorry..." she stammers before her face turns crimson. Barashiith puts his head up in slight alarm, and bugles softly, making sure his rider is alright. "Ahh, Bara, I'm fine... just fine..." she mutters, putting her face on her knees to be invisiable.
"As far as I know, St'le is the only male greenrider they've got at Igen. At Telgar we've got... lessee. I'ryn and R'bian are kinda old for you, I think. M'yn and his Edimonth are nice, cute fellow and a cute dragon, and Kij'in's a strapping young fellow of a greenrider, very handsome, with a very pretty green Khalimu... Khalidu... Khalidamujath. Shards, I can't get her name right these days. But we've got a very nice selection of men at Telgar." K'chiko giggles, and then looks over to the bluerider nearby. "Cl'fan notwithstanding, of course." Whether she's joking around or not is debatable.
Cl'fan sighs gently, and puts an arm around Kaera's shoulders, with an air of this being his sole purpose for even being out this afternoon. "Oh, it's alright. I don't mind at all." He stresses that 'at all', and repeats it for good measure.
Kaera looks up at Cl'fan. "Thanks.. It's just..,. I guess I'm too shy." she laughs then, suddenly and happily. "I'll find one eventually... I hope." the last bit is added in a whisper, then she shakes her head and giggles. "Sorry bout this."
Cl'fan doesn't show any signs of moving his arm. "Oh, it's quite alright, I understand." There's a flicker on his face, a good-natured rumbling from Falk, and suddenly Cl'fan is all too eager to withdraw his arm, coughing as he does so.
Kaera looks at him, confused. "A.. Alright." she looks from Rider to draggie.... wondering. Barashiith falls half asleep, his head resting on the sand, body in the water. "Thanks for understanding."
Melantath> Barashiith lazily pokes Falkirth with his tail. <<What was that about?>> Is asked, direct and to the point as always.
Melantath> Falkirth looks at Barashiith calmly, flicking his wings out briefly. <<I told the old fellow that I would chase R'bian's lovely green if he continued his flagrant disregard of me, what?>> he replies, somewhat smugly.
Eikera just floats about in a wholly uninteresting fashion -- float, float. She's like a pale-skinned, pink-suited ... thing that floats. Ahem.
Kaera looks around, and looks at her dragon who's snorting loudly. "Wonder what's gotten into him..." she says, then shruggs.
Melantath> Barashiith shakes his head. <<My rider is simply lonely, she doesn't get much company.. Never fear, she's not like K'chiko..>>
Melantath> Shujoth emerges from a short period underwater. << My rider cannot be /that/ bad, can she? >> Never mind the fact that Shujoth's hot to chase any green he sees, which tends to contribute to that. << Chase some nice greens, Barashiith. >>
Melantath> Barashiith groans softly, <<I try, but I'm always beaten..>> he says, and mopes, mimicing his riders temprament.. <<I'm always beaten..>>
Melantath> Falkirth ducks his head underwater for a brief second. <<K'chiko is a splendid woman, and were it not for that brown of hers, an immensely suitable choice. My rider will persist in attempting to ingratiate himself by helping her in her work.>>
Melantath> Shujoth stalks his way around the river bottom, bringing his tail up to send a wave of water Barashiith's way. << Then you simply keep trying, Barashiith. You are bound to triumph sometime. >> Turning to Falkirth, he rumbles in acknowledgment. << She does appreciate the help very much. I believe she only has one or two students, and no other full-fledged dragonhealers to assist her. >>
"C'mon, Kaera. Maybe I'll introduce you to a few good men, one of these days. Get out, be sociable. I'll drag you to some of the parties I attend when I've got the time, hm?" Chiko flashes her best friend a grin. "Get you a man of your own."
Kaera nods to Cl'fan. "You know any guys willing to be 'courted' by a brown-rider?" she asks, a silly twinkle in her blue eyes.
"Not off the top of my head. Unless you have no objections to moderately old weyrlings. Hey, It'll do you good to get to a few parties. And taking K'chiko along can only help, right?" Cl'fan doesn't sound too convinced, but smiles anyway.
Kaera laughs. "I just really need company... I'm alone alot.. no one ever comes to visit me...." siiigh. "I'm hoping I'll find a rider who will not care what color I ride, and just like me for who I am!"
K'chiko grins. "If nobody visits you, Kaera... then go visit somebody. It'll do to get you out of your weyr, too." Her eyes are a-twinkle; oh boy, she's plotting now. Time to play matchmaker. "Oh, please, Cl'fan... you flatter me." Teehee.
"I know an ex-herder boy. Bronze rider, now, I s'pose. He'll talk about llamas a bit, but he's not all bad." That's all Cl'fan is going to suggest, because he probably can't mention himself without coming over even worse.
Eikera makes her way back to the shore, now, looking very soggy and examining her wrinkly fingers distastefully. "I met a cook today," she says at no one in particular, only knowing enough about the conversation to pick up that someone wants to meet somebody else. "A journeyman-type boy. Tall. Seemed nice. I think." Hm. She scoops up her towel, and sets to drying her hair.
"Herder? Ah. At least he's not a nomad, I hope... I detest nomads with a passion." K'chiko scowls a bit. No, she doesnae like nomads. "Ooh? Nice. What's his name?" she asks of Eikera, 'cause she's just curious.
Melantath> Shujoth ducks into the lake, then re-emerges again.
"Tahirdan, I think," is Eikera's muffled response to K'chiko. She pulls the towel off, leaving her hair a well-tousled mess. "Ta-something-dan. I'm pretty sure it was Tahirdan." Her hair's fiddled with, and she attempts to make it lie down flat. "Why don't you like nomads? If you don't mind my asking.
Cl'fan watches the teenager talk to the woman with interest, waiting for a reason.
"...long story, Eikera." K'chiko gets all quiet for a few moments. "Tahirdan? Might've seen him." Shrugging, the brownrider looks out towards the dragons. "I don't know."
Eikera shrugs, and doesn't press the issue further. She scoots a bit farther away from the lake, sets down her towel, and plops down with a loud oof. "Maybe he's nice. I just met him today. Told me all about the bakercraft ... but I just mentioned him because he was a boy." She runs her fingers through her hair, pulling out a very soggy ribbon in the process. "Oh -- arr." Grump. "Anyway, I just heard someone talking about finding a guy, I figured I'd try to be helpful." She beams, ever-so-pleased with herself. "What're we looking for guys for, anyway?" She eyes both of them, looking particularly nosy.
Cl'fan pulls himself to his feet, half-bowing. "Well, far be it from me to disrupt your..interesting..conversation, but I have to be leaving. 'Til tommorrow, ladies." He beckons to Falkirth, who slides out of the water, rumbling slightly.
