Subject: Re: HealerCraft Application Application answers:

1) No, I do not have any experience with the Healer craft--at least not in the Pern sense, nor am I involved with it on any online Mush or Moo. In Real Life I have been a Licensed Practical Nurse since 1980, experienced in a wide variety of health care settings. My past experience includes camp nurse, emergency first aid, geriatrics, hemodyalisis, orthopedics, endoscopy, pediatrics and Autism research.

2) The difference between IC (In Character) and OOC (Out Of Character) are IC is what you create in your imagination and then Role Play out on the game and OOC is chat either about the game or RL, but not Role Play. OOC comments are to be paged or channeled, but not spoken out in the public rooms.

3) I have read, several times each, the following Pern books, short stories, and reference books: All the Weyrs of Pern, Dragon Drums, Dragonflight, Dragonquest, Dragonsdawn, Dragonseye, Dragonsinger, Dragonsong, Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern, Nerilka's Story, The Chronicles of Pern: First Fall, The Dolphins of Pern, The Girl Who Heard Dragons, The MasterHarper of Pern, The Renegades of Pern, The Smallest Dragonboy (In Get Off the Unicorn), The White Dragon, The Skies of Pern, The Atlas of Pern, The Dragonlover's Guide to Pern, and The people of Pern. I have not read A Gift of Dragons but will as soon as it comes out this November. If there are any other Pern books, PLEASE let me know and I'll read them!

4) My favorite Pern book is a tie between Moreta and Dragonflight. I liked those best because of the riveting plot and epic heroism of the main characters. The medical aspects fighting the plague in Moreta intrigued me as well.

5) I want to join the Healer craft for several reasons: I have lived in the modern medical professional field in Real Life. I'd like to know what it would be like to learn and practice the Healing arts of Pern. I have recently developed an interest in herbal and natural medicine-I have Dr. Michael Murray's Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine on my desk and use it frequently. Other reasons include: I want LOTS of opportunity for RP, I'd like to do it in different areas, not just be stuck in one area. I'd also like to eventually specialize in dragon healing. I know it isn't required to become a Healer first, but I'd like to do it that way for the RP experience and to live the Pern adventure.

[HealerRankers] Aerrin: Quick! Someone interview Daemoria!

[HealerRankers] Sudanna is oathing..:>

[HealerRankers] Nerak: umm. I've never done it before.. I guess I can try. Can someone send a flit to watch me though?

[HealerRankers] Aerrin can

[HealerRankers] Nerak: cool.

[HealerRankers] Aerrin: Where are you taking her?

You paged Daemoria with: Nerak pages, "Hello, I'm Jwoman Nerak... I hear you need to be interviewed?"

Daemoria pages, "Hi! Yes, thay would be wonderful!"

[HealerRankers] Nerak: um, I just paged her to introduce myself... nad I guess the lounge? or would it be better in the classroom or soemthing...

[HealerRankers] Aerrin likes to do mine in the records room, or the office, if I'm using Aer.

[HealerRankers] Aerrin nods. I have a fl there already, so feel free to ask me anything you need

You paged Daemoria with: Nerak pages, "Ok, I can interview you now... come on into hte Healer Hall, and I'll show you to the Records room, where I'll interview you. OK? Do you need directions?"

[HealerRankers] Aerrin: And remember the rr is in shambles ICly. ;) Erik's having fun putting the hides back in order

Daemoria walks in.

Daemoria says, "Hello." Nerak sees a newcomer walk into the hall and smiles. "Hello! My name is Journeywoman Nerak. Are you Daemoria? Good. I've been waiting for you. Please follow me to a place where we can have our interview."

Nerak smiles, "Sorry about the mess in here... Since the Meteor hit, the Hall's been a mess. Please sit down."

Daemoria says, "I can imagine..." Daemoria sits Daemoria nervously fiddles with her bag.

Nerak grins, and sits down next to Daemoria "Take a few deep breaths... I'm not going to hurt you!" She chuckles. "Ok, I have a few questions to ask you. First, What makes you want to be a healer?"

Daemoria smiles. "I'm a bit nervous."

Daemoria says, "I want to help ease suffering."

Daemoria says, "And to help others live as rich a life as they can."

Daemoria blurts I wasn't sure before the meteor shower--but I want nothing else now!

Aerrin pages, "You may want to suggest polietly and OOC that she try to use longer poses rather than several shorter ones."

Nerak smiles, "No need to be nervous. Would you like a drink?" She walks over to the klah pot and fills her mug, and fills a second for Daemoria, in case she wants it and brings both back. "I understand, this is a very busy time for the Healercraft."

Daemoria says, "Thank you, yes."

Daemoria looks anguished. "Yes!"

[OOC:] Nerak says "Daemoria, how long have you been RP'ing? Im just curious. I wanted to let you know that it takes me a while to type... so be patient w/me. One of the things that people are looking for is long poses, instead of several short ones... just a quick observation... but not something that would influence the outcome of the interview..."

Daemoria (#23508)

Daemoria is tall, long-legged and a bit too lean. She has none of the soft curves that other girls her age are developing. She carries herself well, upright and proudly, with a sinuous grace that lends suppleness to her almost bony frame. Her dark brown hair, as if trying to make up for what her body lacks, is long, thick and heavy-it ripples down her back in long, loose spirals. The flawless alabaster skin of her face, neck and shoulders are her one vanity. Grey-green eyes, thickly fringed with black lashes, and a straight no-nonsense nose are set above a mouth that is often too serious. Her high, wide cheekbones, balancing her rather long face and pointed chin, complete her oval face.

She's wearing her flying gear.

She is a teenager of about 16.

She is awake and looks alert.

Nerak hands the girl the mug of klah. "Good. We have had quite a few people interested in helping since the meteor hit. For the next question, I'd like you to tell me about yourself. Who are you? Where are you from? Family? That kind of thing." she says, smiling and drinking a sip of her klah.

[OOC:] Daemoria says "I've been RPing for about a week--well, I've been reading files mostly, I haven't had a chance to actually do much RPing in that week. I'm not a fast typer either. Don't worry--I'm not in a hurry. Longer poses....that's good to know, because I can write, but I was unsure how to conduct myself in an interview. I'm glad you told me."

[OOC:] Nerak says "hehe... I remember my first week on, and there are sooo many helpfiles! hehe. Yep, longer poses are definately something the staff will be looking for when RP'ing."

Daemoria says, "I'm from Tillek Hold. My father is Daelon, my mother is Morthia. My Da is in the seacraft and my mother's work is with the Healers of our hold. I don't have any brothers or sisters."

Daemoria says, "I took the Harper classes when I was little and helped out in work assignments around the hold, you know, the usual--kitchen duty, laundry, gardens. Mostly I helped in the Infirmary-that's what my mother wanted."

Nerak takes a few notes then looks up, "Oh, I've never been to Tillek, but heard it was nice. Your mother worked with the Healers? That is good, what did she do? And, while we're at it, the next question is this, What do you think your responsibilities would be as a healer?"

Daemoria shrugged "It didn't matter to me--work was work. I liked the people and the Healers are good people to work for.

[OOC:] Nerak says "Ok, another nitpicky thing, and this bugs some people. When talking with other people... especially in a class or something where there are a lot of people, there should be just one pose per turn... each person poses once. You can take your time waiting while hte other person types, by formulating your own next pose... or at least that is what I try to do. :) I happen to not be bugged by it... but there are some who are..."

[HealerRankers] Nerak: how specific of an answer does she need for the what do you think healers do?

[HealerRankers] Nerak: I mean the healer responsibilities...

[HealerRankers] Aerrin: Dig on that. Ask her what she thinks she'd be doing as an apprentice, ect

[HealerRankers] Nerak: k...

Daemoria says, "My mother isn't crafted. She wanted to, but never got around to training. She helped with the filing, helped with inventory, assisted with supervising the work details of hold help in the Infirmary, stuff like that."

Nerak takes another sip of klah, "I'm glad you liked working with the healers. I hear there are some rather nice Healers there at Tillek, though I don't know any of them personally. It sounds like your mother was busy! What do you think would be your responsibilities as a healer apprentice? I need to know in your words what you think working as a healer would entail."

Daemoria says, "I know my responsibilities as a healer would be a lot different that what I've been doing, although I'm sure I'd still make beds, carry trays and offer drinks to sick folks. I guess I would learn how to ease joint ail and the like...set broken bones, stitch wounds...but as an apprentice? I suppose most of it will be studying and helping fetch and carry (grinning)."

Nerak smiles, "Good, it sounds like you have a good idea... studying and fetching... sounds like a typical apprentice job!" She winks. "We don't all treat the appies like canines, but some of the rankers will. I'll let you find out for yourself who they are... trust me, it'll be easy to tell..." She grins. "Alright now. What are your goals as a healer? What do you hope to accomplish?"

Daemoria relaxes a bit, realizes she's been taking too shallow breaths, begins to breathe more deeply and slowly. At this question she jerks upright in her chair, looks Nerak straight in the eye and emphatically says, "I want to be a weyr healer!"

Nerak nods... "We need good weyr healers... Why do you want to be one?" She takes a sip of her klah, waiting for teh answer, keeping a smile on her face to keep Daemoria at ease, and letting her know that her answers are good, but she needs more details...

Daemoria shudders, looks down at her clenched hands remembering the screams, "I never realized HOW they suffered protecting us! It's the least I can do for them!" Almost stuttering in her earnestness, she explained, "Oh, I heard the songs, the talk. I've seen the scars...but I always saw the dragons and their riders in a romantic light. Nerak, we couldn't SEE anything that day--the shutters were closed. But the screams were incredible! They said that forelimbs and wingsails were snapped, wings punctured!" She raised her eyes to Nerak's. In them a determined light burned, "I want to be able to mend what I can, ease the pain that I can in both rider and dragon so they can fly again!"

Nerak nods with a smile on her face... She rubs the goosebumps on her arms. "Very good." is said emotionally. "You certainly feel for the dragons! We all do. They are definately worth keeping in good shape!" She smiles, knowingly. "Now for the last question... What skills or knowledge do you have that you feel would benefit the Healer Hall?"

Daemoria shrank slightly in her chair, "Skills and knowledge....none that I know of, Nerak, none that I know of, except willing hands and a hunger to learn. I have no rank, nothing to prove. Ask me to do it, tell me how and I'm yours. The only 'skill', if you could call it that, is I've had the opportunity to see folks bloodied by accidents and in pain. It doesn't rattle me anymore. Honestly, I was little more than a drudge for the infirmary."

Nerak smiles brightly and chuckles, "Well, it sounds like you know how to handle yourself in an infirmary during emergencies... that counts for something... right? It also sounds as if you are quite willing to learn. That is another plus." She takes another sip of her klah. "You wouldn't believe the number of apprentices we have that faint at the sight of blood... Some of them choose other crafts..." She smiles.

[HealerRankers] Nerak: Aerrin, so, I've covered all of hte questions, can you think of anything else she needs to be asked?

[HealerRankers] Aerrin: No, I think you're good.

[HealerRankers] Nerak: great! hehe... so, what happens next for her? Just so I can tell her what's next...

Daemoria grinned and rolled her eyes, "Well, I have been known to faint at the sight of grease, oil and machinery!"

[HealerRankers] Aerrin: Might want to remind her that pern doesn't have much machinery..

[HealerRankers] Aerrin: And ICly, tell her that a healer will get back to her. OOCly, tell her she can expect to hear from us within two weeks, at the MOST. We'll try to get it done much sooner. ANd then you need to send the log or a link to the log to *hint

[OOC:] Nerak says "remember, Pern at this point in time is before AIVAS... no machinery. Just to let you know! :) Ok, we've finished the questions. You can expect to hear back from the healer staffers within 2 weeks at hte most. They do try to do it faster. I just need to send them the log of this interview so they can read it..."

Nerak closes her notebook after putting a few last notes in them, and laughs, "I see! I might be the same way. Well, we're done with all of the questions on my list. A healer will get back to you and let you know what the decision is. Do you have any questions for me?"

[OOC:] Nerak says "yeah, I still mess up w/things like that... and that is what the staffers are for! hehe... they correct us all. I'm gettnig better though... been RP'ing here for a little over a year. :)"

Daemoria says, "Yes, I do have one. Is there a place nearby that needs some help while I'm awaiting your decision? I traveled quite a ways to get to Healer Hall..."

Nerak grins, "Well, you are eager, arent you!" and shakes her head. "Well, if you look all around, the whole hall is rather messy. There is dust everywhere and people are working hard trying to get the hall back to working shape. Any and all help is appreciated! You are more than welcome to help us!" She grins.

Daemoria smiles back at her and stands, "That would be wonderful! It beats just sitting around. Thanks for your time. I really appreciate it."

Nerak chuckles, "Thank /you/ for your interest in becoming a healer. We are always looking for good healers! I hope to see you around the hall as an apprentice. If it were my decision, you would be!" She stands up. "Do you want to follow me back to the Healer Lounge? It is a little better cleaned up, and the klah there has less dust in it." She grins.

Daemoria smiles "As an apprentice, would I be allowed in there?

Nerak laughs, "Sure, it's where we all relax, study, and even fall asleep sometimes. Would you like to go?"

Daemoria says, "Sure, lead on."

Nerak walks into the lounge and re-fills her mug. "Ahhh, this is better klah here. Have a seat. The chairs are comfy here!" She says. "This is where we relax."

[Healer]Sudanna: is she getting a tour?

[Healer] Nerak: a bit of one... IC'ly, she says she has come a long way to help and to try to become a healer, so I'm showing her the lounge. I atually have to scoot here... it's late and I have to get up early... but thought I could leave her in the lounge.

Daemoria drifted around the room looking at wall pictures and the apprentice baord.

OOC:Nerak says,"sorry about this, but I'm pretty tired, it's late here and I have to get to bed."

OOC:Daemoria says, "it's ok, its late her too. I was going to get off soon anyways."

Nerak yawns and excuses herself to go to bed. "I hope to see you soon, I have an early infirmary shift, and I need to get some sleep. Don't hesitate to stop me in the hall if you have a question." She waves goodbye to the girl in the lounge and heads back to her room.
