My Aquariums!
When I was little we kept a small 5 gallon aquarium in our living room. It usually contained 3 fish, one for each of the children (my sister, brother, and I). I used to sit on my coach and just watch them swim around (corny I know, but if you've ever had fish you know what I mean). After years of haveing a small aquarium my brother and I jumped at the chance of buying a nice 29 gallon at a yard sale for $5. Yard Sales are the way to go! Then, in December of 2002 we bought the most beautiful aquarium, a 46 gallon bow front, and it contains some of my most favorite fish ever! I hope you enjoy looking at my "other" hobby.
46 Gallon Bow Front
current inhabitants:
3 young oscars
1 large Angel Fish
2 schwartz cat fish
1 small pl*co

Our 46 gallon tank is filtrated by two bio wheel Penguin Filters, one is a 330 and one is a 170. When only the 330 was being used the tank got cloudy from time to time, now we have the 170 and also a small water filter/bubbler that helps out as well. Our tank is constantly crystal clear!

The tank is cleaned constantly. While our Angel is very large, he does not produce much waste. Our little babies, the oscars however, are like little poop machines! However, we feel they are worth it and they get water changes and gravel cleanings as often as every other day.

INHABITANTS
Angel Fish - KingPin, or Jumbo as he is affectionately called is the largest Angel fish I have ever seen. He is about the size of my hand, perhaps a little smaller. He is much shyer then our oscars but can hold his own, he enjoys flakes and brine shrimp, as well as some blood worms.
Oscars- We started out with just two young oscars (2"). They were Jewels and Froggy, an albino tiger oscar and a tiger oscar. They have grown quite a bit, and have the neatest personality. Before every feeding I enjoy patting them (yes, PATTING) them. Jewels especially will swim back and forth between my hand and the aquarium wall, brushing against my hand. We got Ugly (he is ugly) a few weeks after. We dont really have any reason for getting him other then we thought he had some spunk. At first Froggy did not like him very much, but now the three of them school and are best buds. They enjoy live feeder guppies, they LOVE to chase them and nail them, yum yum a special treat. Primarily though they eat their nice little medium sized Cichlid pellets, as well as shrimp pellets, freeze dried blood worms, and regular bloodworms.

My Views on Keeping Oscars
I am certainly no expert, but I have researched plenty and there is a lot of myths out there. Oscars are really not an aggressive fish. Yes its true that they will eat fish that fit in their mouths, but mostly every other single species of fish will. Aggression will mainly stem from lacking on space, and of course when they get to breeding age. My Oscars co-exist nicely with my angel fish King Pin, and also before a smaller angel fish name marble but he has sense been moved to the 29 Gallon. I have been told by Pet Store employees that oscars will kill one another if one gets smaller then the other, I simply dont believe this is true at all. My oscars LOVE eachother. However, they do have plenty of swimming space for their size and an abundance of food. Be ready to update your tank! I feel in 6 months I will have to update them to at least a 125 gallon. They need space to swim and live happily.

With that said, please view my pictures!
