The Monarchy

The royal family lives in three places: One palace in Neptunia city F.D.; the original palace in Eternia; and a small villa in Xanadue.

The Monarchy has limited powers in the matters of the country. The Prime Minister has most of the powers. However, if legislation is introduced, or if the government does something that is objectionable to the Monarchy, they may veto the decisions of the government. (The actions of the government have to be pretty drastic for the Monarch to act; I.E., instituting communism.) They also have some other small powers they may use if they so wish, but most rarely do.

The first King to be recorded in Neptunian History was Francisco Magnolia IV (C. 1226-1281), who ruled from 1240-1281. His wife, the Queen, is relatively unknown; her name and when she was born and died, are all unknown. We do know, however, that she never reigned. Historians generally agree that she lived around the same time as her husband.

We know that Francisco Magnolia died in 1281, having reigned for (we think) 41 years, at the age of 55. It is generally accepted by historians that the Queen died in her early 40’s. It is also unknown how or why Francisco Magnolia IV became King at such a young age.

Francisco Magnolia IV had one son, Francisco Magnolia V (1259-1313). He reigned from 1281-1313, for 22 years. He was 20 when he was coronated and 54 when he died. His wife, Melissa Elizabeth-Magnolia (1260-1311) lived for 51 years. They had one child, Hermione Magnolia (1297-1403). She married Malcom Elbridge (1297-1403). Hermione became Queen at the age of 16/

In 1403, Queen Hermione Magnolia died after a 90 year reign (1313-1403). Her body lay in state for over one month and over 5 million people came to view the body. She was buried in her home province of Eternia, on an island in Dolphin Lake, next to her father, Francisco Magnolia V, and his father, Francisco Magnolia IV. She was 105 years old. Over 18 million bouquets of flowers were collected in honour of the Queen, and placed on the island where she rests.

Queen Hermione’s husband was King Malcom Magnolia. Queen Hermione was not married when she became Queen. She was married in 1325 to Malcom Elbridge. When a King, Queen, Prince or Princess gets married, the one they are marrying takes on the Royal last name. In this case, Malcom took on the name “Magnolia.” In regular marriages, the woman takes on the man’s name or keeps her name if she wishes, as is custom. King Malcom became the reigning Monarch when his wife died, but he died the same year at the age of 106. Unlike modern monarchies, where the King or Queen’s spouse is only a Prince or a Princess, in Neptunia the King or Queen’s spouse becomes a King or Queen upon marriage. If the reigning Monarch dies, then their spouse becomes the reigning Monarch.

Queen Hermione and King Malcom’s only child, Daniel Magnolia (1329-1402), had died at the age of 73. He never got to reign, as his parents were still alive when he died. Daniel’s wife was Ashley Montrose, who lived from 1330-1411. She passed away at the age of 81.

Daniel's first child, Kalvin Magnolia (1352-1353) died in infancy at 4 months. His second child, Hermione Melissa Magnolia II (1355-1417) went on to become Queen, reigning from 1403-1417. She died at the age of 62. Daniel’s third child, Walter Magnolia (1356-1360), died at the age of four years.

Hermione Melissa Magnolia II became Queen in 1403, and reigned for 14 years. She died in 1417. Her first child was a Daughter. Her name is Hermione Melissa Magnolia III (1381-14??) and she became Queen in 1417 at the age of 35, after her father abdicated the throne that same year. She also had a son, Alexander Magnolia (1382-14??), the next year.

The abdication by Clifford Magnolia (the first in Neptunian history) shocked the country. Hermione Melissa Magnolia II's husband, King Clifford, had led a private battle with Kronlop's (Alzheimer's) disease. When revealed to the public, the support was overwhelming. Today, Clifford lives with his daughter and son at any of the Royal Palaces.

Hermione Melissa Magnolia III is still Queen, and is married to Michael Emmerson III, who was born in 1381. She is pregnant now. Her brother, Prince Alexander Magnolia, is married with two children.
