WHY YOU ARE STUPID
Cuz you listen to mainstream crap!! There I'm done. End of rant...... ok ok. I'll elaborate.
Seriously, this is what bugs me about bands like Blink-182, New Found Glory, and Sum 41: There is a difference between an artist and a musician. I don't want to listen to musicians, their feelings are fake, contrived and more cliche than the magnets on your refrigerator -can you find the Nirvana rip off in the Blink lyrics-. This comes from being on a major label. What's that you say? Don't be so close minded. Well, the fact is that major labels don't care about artists, if you don't sell you get dropped. This puts undue pressure on the musician to write a hit song to sell records. This, and only this, is SELLING OUT. Pandering to an audience so they will like you has noting to do with art and everything to do with big business.
Majors won't take a chance on someone innovative, new, exciting. Cuz if it doesn't sell it is sh*t. Majors these days just scoop-up the most accessible bands from the Indies. It happens a level below that too. Fat Wreck Chords only signs bands from smaller labels. Where do you think they got Dillinger Four -that is a whole other rant...let us move on-.
It has not always been like this. Major labels nurtured plenty of bands in decades past. Ahhh the good old days...-What the f**k? I'm reminiscing about a time I wasn't even born- Imagine if you will, a time when Hendrix, the Beatles or even Elvis were popular. Dangerous bands that would change the face of music. You're not gonna see that on MTV. Sure their fans were f**king idiots just like you, but at least they pretended they could change the world, or destroy it. You are all too happy to go on with business as usual. All you want is Taco Bell, Bud Light, MTV. You techno f**ks -read: disco queens- hear your music from car commercials before you hear it at a club or "party". Hip Hop is for consumers of Yuppie Culture. It is nothing but commercials for Lexus and Tommy Hillfiger. "Peep dis yo. I'm from the hood, buts Is wants to be just like the white folk." Whatever happened to "Kill Whitey"? Now it "Let's be Whitey"? F**K THAT. Yes, there is innovative underground Hip Hop but you'll never hear it cuz Piss daddy won't sign it and Pepsi won't make a commercial out of it.
Innovative, dangerous, new music is out there. Just not on MTV, not in the mainstream not produced by Butch Vig. Innovation isn't popular, dangerous doesn't sell. No one could change rock music the way the Beatles or Hendrix did, only the way Korn did. -who want's to bet they picked their name and style out of their own s**t- By the time dangerous innovative artists would be influential enough to make a difference in pop music, they'd be on MTV playing watered down crap.
Why don't you already know this? Why aren't you into independent music? Are you just lazy? All you have to do is turn MTV off, pick up a magazine besides Rolling Stone or Spin -yes, there are others- go to a record store besides Virgin or Tower -yes, there are others- and take a f**king chance on something you've never heard. No one has heard the best band in the world, and by the time you do they won't be the best anymore. SO START DIGGING!
