Extreme - News

On the Extreme front:

l a t e s t - n e w s

Extreme is set to reunite and perform in concert, at least for one night only, this news comes courtesy of WAAF - FM Boston, MA. On June 30th, 2006 - at the Bank of America Pavilion (formerly Boston Fleet Center) Extreme with all four original band members will reunite and perform a concert for a large audience. Some other concert venues have been rumored to have Extreme perform, for right now that is all pure speculation. I will post anything official as we progress to this reunion show. However, the Extreme fan in me hopes this leads to possibly bigger and better things, like a fifth Extreme album.

Here is an ad for the show posted on some other sites and forums:

There is a rumor going around on the internet about Extreme reuniting for (6?) live shows in the New England area this summer. It will probably be a very brief reunion tour, and may possibly even signal something is in the works for Japan, a possible live release CD/DVD, that was rumored ages ago but never came to pass. Both are rumors. That is all I know. Will keep everyone posted, but don't get your hopes up just in case.

Hey Extreme fans! Guess what, I came across an official Extreme DVD video compilation, from, the 20th Century Masters collection of artists. The DVD features, only five Extreme videos, they are:

(1): Kid Ego (east coast version remix)
(2): Decadence Dance
(3): More Than Words
(4): Hole Hearted
(5): Get The Funk Out

This DVD is a nice collectors item, for the dough ($5.99 to $7.99) and all the videos are in DVD quality. Of course, this is far from perfect, quite. Usually these artist DVD's only have 5 videos, with this compilation being no exception. But instead of Kid Ego, I would have liked Rest In Peace, Stop The World, or Tragic Comic. And where is "Hip Today", which is one of my favorite Extreme videos, also notably absent are Mutha, Little Girls, and Cynical. But this was only put out for their hits, More Than Words and Hole Hearted, and since the band has no plans to most likely ever reunite again, this is a great package for fans who want to actually buy something new from Extreme for a change, well sort of. That would be a new album, which we shall never have the privelege of buying, most likely, unless they do make a new album. It's so sad to be a fan of Extreme. After that VH1 show, it just kinda wakes you up. You have got to enjoy what they did, and move on, and stop dreaming of a reunion. We all want it. But, well, 'you-No'.

Ok, make sure you pick a copy of this up, it's pretty nice. Peace out Extreme Fans!

Well, this isn't really news just a fans opinion on the VH1's Bands Reunited Show: Extreme. It was posted on my guestbook by somebody who wished to remain anonymous. As a matter of fact, their opinion on the show was so good, and I hope they don't mind, I decided to post it here in the news section for all you Extreme fans to read, here goes:

from the guestbook, poster, author unknown:
very sad to find out through the vh1 show that they wont ever reunite anytime soon. its terrible for any of their fans who help put the food on their table to hear this, in out of all things, a reality tv show about trying to reunite a band. grow up guys, making more extreme records, how is it taking a step back if it is about the music as you say it is? i could go on to criticize nuno for being so stuck up. but why waste my time on him. he wouldnt even do that for his fans on the show. just for the record, extremes music will stand the test of time, it already has, it is that good. and like all good things, they never go out of style, or get old, they remain art. that will be the case with extremes music.

Ok, well I think this may be it for quite awhile for any Extreme news (this isn't even news!), but to keep things interesting I will be updating the site here and there. I want to focus less on the band members other projects from now on, and more on Extreme.

Hu Guys. The VH1's Bands Reunited: Extreme episode was amazing. I saw it today. It really gave me some insight into who, and where they are today as people. It humanizes them, except for population 1. He wouldn't show his face on camera. You know who I am referring to.

So, this is it, it looks like from here on out, no more Extreme news again. Well, it was fun while it lasted. :)

The VH1's Bands Reunited Episode featuring Extreme, is to be aired on 1/27/04, at 9:00pm central, 10:00pm eastern time. Here is the description of what the show is all about:

VH1's Bands Reunited: Extreme
This episode of VH1's Bands Reunited chronicles the effort to reunite '90s rockers Extreme, best known for their #1 acoustic ballad "More Than Words." Host Aamer Haleem travels the globe to track down former band members and convince them to come together for a one time only reunion and performance. Will the guys be thrilled to see each other? Or would they rather keep the past in the past? Tune in and find out if the members of Extreme are willing to put their divisive break-up behind them and play together one last time. - VH1

Well, there you have it! Finally, we will get more insight into what exactly led the band to breakup to begin with, and why won't they reunite for another studio recording. Don't know about you all, but this show scares me as a fan of Extreme. For one last time? Yikes.

So what do I make of this news, not sure, but I'd love to hear a new Extreme record, as would all of you I'm sure. Who could say no, I'm sure the new record would be a monster. Anyway, this could all just be an attempt for the band members to market themselves so to speak. I just couldn't imagine Gary, Pat, or Nuno, even appearing on something like this and teasing the fans. It's shameful if that turns out to be the case. Though, if this is any sign, it's that a reunion is very well possible. Anyway, nothings official yet, but try not to get your hopes up as the plug in for their (other projects) might be what this is indeed all about. Than again......?

As fans, we wish on!

Extreme reunited briefly on May 11th, 2002 at a special birthday bash for Steve Hoffman in Toronto, Canada. Steve assisted in the management of the band during the Extreme & Schizophonic era. I am sure they were great. For photos of the event go to the:
Extreme Fanatic/Mourning Widows Website
You should find them in the photos section for Extreme. As much as I love seeing the band playing live with eachother. Please stop teasing us guys. We want to see you guys together in the studio again, to make another Extreme album.

Spectrum records in the UK has released a Best Of Extreme CD titled, "The Collection". Stay clear of this cd (for poor production values) unless you are a collector like myself and you have to have it. HMV Japan (hmv.co.jp) is reporting a reissue on Sept 21st, 2002 of "The Best Of Extreme: An Accidental Collication Of Atoms?" - UICY-2573 - Universal Label. Keep in mind that Japanese CD reissues can sometimes have different things inside them, like pictures. I will keep you all posted.

Universal is releasing, and paying respect to Extreme when their new Best Of Extreme CD, the 20th Century Masters/The Millenium Collection is released in the USA on March 26th 2002. There is to be 10 tracks included on the CD. All of their hits on Top 40 radio and Rock radio. All the tracks will be digitally remastered to sound better than ever. Here is the press release issued for the release of this CD:

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Extreme was much more than the acoustic ballad "More Than Words," the band's blockbuster gold-certified #1 hit in 1990. On THE BEST OF EXTREME edition of 20TH CENTURY MASTERS/THE MILLENNIUM COLLECTION (A&M/UME), released March 26, 2002, the compilation's 10 digitally remastered selections reveal an ambitious band alternately rockin' and progressive, funk metal and pop, acoustic and electric. Also featuring the Top 5 pop "Hole Hearted" plus six Top 40 Album Rock hits, THE BEST OF EXTREME celebrates the band in all its extremes. With singer Gary Cherone, guitar wizard Nuno Bettencourt, bassist Pat Badger and drummer Paul Geary, Extreme debuted with a self-titled 1989 album which included "Kid Ego," a jibe at self-important rock stars which just cracked the Album Rock Top 40. The follow-up, a concept album about the struggle for genuine love in a corrupt society, 1990's EXTREME II: PORNOGRAFFITTI, was led by the first singles "Decadence Dance" and the horn- flavored "Get The Funk Out" (#34 Album Rock). Then "More Than Words" hit radio and sent the album to double platinum. The fourth single, the acoustic- based pop rocker "Hole Hearted," went to #4. Extreme returned in 1992 with the gold yet darker III SIDES TO EVERY STORY. The first of the three sides, entitled "Yours," featured "Rest In Peace" (#1 Album Rock) while the second side, "Mine," boasted the romantic pop "Stop The World" (#9 Album Rock) and "Tragic Comic." The third side, "The Truth," recorded with a 70-piece orchestra, was decidedly experimental and included "Am I Ever Gonna Change" (#10 Album Rock). After touring with Bon Jovi in 1993, Extreme went to work on new music. But Bettencourt wanted to do a solo album; Cherone was starring in "Jesus Christ Superstar," and Geary yearned to manage other acts. 1995's socio- political WAITING FOR THE PUNCHLINE, with the trend-skewering "Hip Today" (#26 Album Rock), would prove to be the final album from Extreme, which officially disbanded in October 1996. Cherone was tapped as the new singer of Van Halen, with whom he recorded one album. Today, he's a member of Tribe Of Judah, along with Badger; Bettencourt fronts Mourning Widows, and Geary is the manager of multiplatinum artist Godsmack. The original Extreme lineup reunited for a New Year's Eve 1999 show, but no longer-lasting reunions are planned. The series 20TH CENTURY MASTERS/THE MILLENNIUM COLLECTION features new "best of" albums from the most significant music artists of the past century.

Amazon.com is reporting that Extreme's Best Of Collection, which was previously only available in Europe, Japan, Mexico and Canada, will be released in the USA on February 15th 2000. This will make it five records released in the USA for Extreme, their last release was "Waiting For The Punchline" back in 1995. No word on the track listing yet, it may be different than the international versions. Though, I read that the record label will be A&M records. In other Extreme news, there is talk that Gary Cherone and Nuno Bettencourt are working on a song for a movie starring and is being executive produced by Gary (titled "The Habit"). I cannot confirm that this is entirely true, or if it isn't true.

n e w s - from 12/01/99 through 1/01/99

Yes, Gary Cherone has left Van Halen, No, Extreme has not reunited yet, despite all the hype generated by their fans on the internet. In all likelihood, it is possible that Extreme may reunite one day in the not to distant future, but, for now it appears that this won't be happening anytime soon. I'll keep you all informed, it would be a great thing for the world of music, if this early 90's musically versatile rock/alt/pop band did resurface.
