Night-Blooming Jasmine
Cestrum Nocturnum
Solanaceae
C. Nocturnum is an evergreen shrub thats width is 72 inches and can grow to a staggering 120 inches in height. This plant has nightblooming clusters of tiny white flowers which give off a fantastic sweet aroma only present during the night. These plants do best with full sun, but can tolerate some shade and moist soil, the soil preferably a sandy loam or clay loam, but they will grow in normal soil as well. Spring fertilization is recommended, as well as monthly feeds during the growing season. This plant is an avid grower and to mantain its compact growth, you must pinch the foliage and clip it back hard after flowering. It blooms year round, mostly during the spring and summer time and tends to die back a little come the winter solstice. It is a main food source for caterpillars so dont be surprised if most of the leaves are devoured. They will grow back in no time at all. The scent of this plant will completely take over your entire yard, no matter what other fragrance your other plants emit... thats how strong the scent is.
