Along came a Serpent

Fiery serpent coiled upon the ground

With frigtening hiss and rattling sound

Body so long... so thick... so round

With one poisoned pinch, your weakness is found

An older woman whose hair had turned gray

Decided to walk on one bright shiny day

Along a path woven into the ground

The crackling of leaves was the only known sound

When came to a fork, presented a riddle

With a badly wounded rattlesnake right in the middle

It lie there dying this dangerous creature

A small little rattle was its only known feature

Out of care in her heart she took this snake home

Back the way she came, she started to roam

To her tiny house made only for one

In the thick of the forest, no light from the sun

She nursed the serpent and took care of its wound

While the sun was arise, in the dark of the moon

She tended to him daily till he had grown well

This beast from the forest, sent to it from hell

It turned and it bit her, and then bit her again

She lie dying of venom, enough to kill eight men

She turned to him, her life so bleak inside her mind

The poison coursing in her blood was making her go blind

She said, "How could you do this, I helped you for christ's sake"

To which it replied to her, "Bitch, you knew I was a snake"
