The Mobian replacement for the sorely out-of-date zipper. Two metal strips are woven into the fabric of the clothes wherever a zipper would normally be. When the two strips are pressed together, energy cells hooked up to each strip warms the metal slightly, causing them to become magnetized to each other. A thermal seal can withstand several hundred pounds of pressure, and there have been several known instances where the cloth around the seal has given way while the seal connection itself remained intact. The only way to safely open a thermal seal is to press the deactivation stud, generally located at the top of the outermost strip. The strips will still stay lightly shut after the stud is pressed, but can be easily pulled apart.
Thermal seals are often called "therm" for short, a term which is also used as a verb (i.e., "therm up your pants").
