Founded in 2 AD, shortly after the world-spanning Acorn Kingdom was first established, the members of Royal Council serves as both the king's most trusted advisors and as agents who enact change as per his orders in each of their specialized fields. They also work as a check and balance for the king, as they are able to veto any decision made by him with a three-fourth's majority vote. Fortunately, this has only rarely happened over the 3000+ year rule of the Acorn dynasty, and only once has it ever been recorded that the council voted to remove a king completely from power.
There are eight positions in the council (a number wich fluctuates as the kingdom's needs change), each filled with individuals hand-picked by the sovreign upon their ascension to the throne and generally considered to be the best and brightest in their fields. Often, each council-member will further select a second who will take their place at official functions should they be too busy to attend. The second is treated as if they were the regular council member themselves, as they are generally of the same mind as the person they are standing in for.
The current council positions and their duties are as follows:
Bureau Chief - All policing agencies and is personally in charge of security at Acorn Castle.
Chief Computer Technician - Computer research, development, and security.
Chief Engineer - Mechanical and electronics research and development, energy resources, and architecture.
Master Magician - Magical, occult, and chaotic energy research.
Minister of Medicine - Medicinal research, development, and practice. Often fills in as the king's personal physician, as well.
Minister of Science - Scientific research and development.
Political Advisor - Advises the king on all political matters.
Warlord - The combined Acorn Royal Militias.
The information contained within this list is subject to change without notice.
Unless the current sovreign decides to dismiss them from their post or they voluntarily abdicate their position, each Royal Council member retains their appointment for life. There have been several instances where certain council members have served under two or more different Acorns, given the often wildly varied life expectancies of certain Mobian races.
