Good Authors
...are always hard to find after you've read a lot, so I've decided to setup a list of good authors and a rate&review system for other people.
I will also set up individual web pages for each author and his/her works.
This will start out with just Sci-fi and fantasy, but I will move on to other fiction and nonfiction when I'm not busy with procrastination.
FANTASY
- Katherine Kerr: Novels of Deverry and the Westlands
This is my current favorite, for reasons obvious if you read the series:
This is the only TRUE epic adventure I've ever had the
incredible pleasure of reading: the actual basic plot elements and feeling of the whole series changes slowly and subtly throughout the story!
After you're half-way into the series, you realize that the whole focus has changed!
From swords to swords and sorcery to magic to faraway places...
In short: this is the first series I've read where the actual PLOT ISN'T Static! However, at the start of each flashback, there is a
slight sting of annoyance because you want so desperately to see what happens in the standard timeline...but after that
initial stage, KK really sucks you into her Celtic Reality!
- Glen Cook: The Black Company
- Terry Goodkind: The Sword of Truth Series
- Robin Hobb: Farseer Trilogy
- J Gregory Keyes: The Waterborn (Chosen of the Changeling - a 2 book series)
- George R.R. Martin: A Game of Thrones...and his new book: A Clash of Kings
- David Gemmell: The Drenai Saga
- Raymond Feist: the World of Midkemia
- L.E. Modesitt, Jr.
- Greg Costikyan: The Books of Cups and Sorcery (very funny!!)
- Robert Jordan: The Wheel of Time Series
- Stephen King: The Dark Tower Series
(each of his works are connected to this main series, as
different worlds! Incredible stuff!)
- David (High Hunt, The Losers) and Leigh Eddings: The Belgariad, The Mallorean, The Rivan Codex, Belgarath the Sorcerer, Polgara the Sorceress The Tamuli, and The Elenium
- Tad Williams:The Otherland Series and the 'Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn' Series. Very good author.
- Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman: Too MANY to count here!!!
(co-authors)
- Terry Brooks : Shannara, Running with the Demon, Knight of the Word
- J.R.R. Tolkein: more to come... (I have to add him in, because he set the standards:
the grandpappy of most of this stuff today)
Other Authors of interest include
- Brian Jaques
- Robert Asprin
- Piers Anthony (gets a little strange (*ahem*, -cough- um, explicit?) a bit later on in the Xanth series...)
Fantasy to be Reviewed
- Harry Turtledove (who knew he did Sci-fi/fantasy as well?)
- Spider Robinson
- Jack Whyte
- Morgan Lewellyn
Science Fiction
Now here's another small step...
- Isaac Asimov: just one of the Grandaddies of all Sci-fi
-------(The Foundation series comes to mind...but he's written so many good works...oh just search anywhere, and you'll see what I mean!
- Bernard Weber:
His insights, and the extent of studying he
must've done on the 'Empire of the Ants' is evident in almost
every page of the book!
- Harry Harrison (the Stainless Steel Rat)
- Robert Heinlien Another GREAT Grandaddy of all Sci-Fi!
(I hope I spelled his name correctly.)
- Ray Bradbury And Yet another Sci-fi Master!!!
-
Fiction
Soon to grow, Room to grow...
Nonfiction
Soon to grow, Room to grow...
- Eagle Hardware & Garden's Pocket Ref:
This is a pocket-sized little book with Everything!!
from the periodic table of elements to conversion tables to
lists of major holidays to the gravitational acceleration of pluto!
- Carl Sagan
of course... (try The Dragons of Eden)
"THE DEMON-HAUNTED WORLD" is a MUST read FOR ANYONE/EVERYONE!!! a very good book.
- Tolstoy : Confession
You know who this is!! He wrote 'War & Peace' and 'Anna Karenina'!! How could anyone NOTknow who this guy is?!
- Stephen Hawking:
If the "...For Dummies" company ever decided
to make a 'Quantum Physics for Dummies,' Stephen
Hawking's book,
'A Brief History of Time' would be it. He is able to
take originally complex information and open it to discussion for anyone!!
This is for those of you who've wondered about the questions that can't be answered, (at least, not yet!)
- More to come.
More to come soon!
