Life in New York
In 1998 he uprooted and moved to Harlem, New York, from where he receives much of his inspiration.
He says he enjoys living in this city because peoples' lives are heavily revolved around art, whether "it's a person singing in the subway, or a person beating buckets on a street corner."
Long time no see
Chico received a lot of praise for the Long Time set, which spawned several moderate hits over a short period of time.
Initially, the public perceived him to be just another R&B singer, but with heavy airplay, major publicity and a unique style, Chico managed to succeed in recreating his image with his very own blend of rich vocal talent and alternative singing methods.
The Game
His second album, The Game, is based on a problem faced by many living in today's society. Getting caught up in the rat race as a means of survival, or similarly, striving to overcome setbacks without being suppressed by one's personal adversity
Til Tommorrow
Similar to Long Time No See, Chico covers a track from the inimitable Marvin Gaye - this time lending his smooth vocals to "Til Tomorrow." A beautiful rendition of a classic song, that somehow manages to stay true to its original.
Working with Joe
The album also includes a collaboration with friend Joe, with whom Chico has worked with on previous occasions: most notably on a song entitled Another Night from the Hav Plenty soundtrack, and also on Profyles debut album Whispers In The Dark.
His talented and much underrated brother, El Debarge, also makes a worthy contribution to this album. As does Bobby Brown and other artists of such reputable ilk.
Chico and Joe have just released another song entitled, Playa Hater - a mellow jam that I'm sure is destined to be another smash hit.
But there's one thing your fans would really love to know Chico! When will you give us what we really want ... and that's an album of Neo Soul's finest in harmonious swing with R&B's finest? I refer, of course, to a Chico and Joe album.
