Masquerade

Painted faces
float on by
lipstick smile
and shadowed eyes
all a part of the game of chance
a theatre of pain
Control
-out of your hands
you pause
and wonder why
-are we all insane
should we hide
the masquerades of our lives

We can see
a future tomorrow
a tomorrow
that will never come
You can see
tears and sorrow
the blood and sorrow
I'm on my knees

We cross the street
hand in hand
see the people
if you can
taken in
by
lipstick and a tan
we all smile
we're her fans

. . . the masquerade is forever. . .

Clustered groups
two by two
one by one
and you must choose
the MASQUERADE
the masquerade that is for you

So you see
there's a tomorrow
a tomorrow which you can bring
Do you see
the painted joys of tomorrow
the joys the mask can bring

Shadowed ghosts
of forgotten plays
hazy hues
and sharper greys
revolving doors
pass you by
as you exhale
"Good bye and goodnight"

Now crying,
now I'm crying
for the masquerade that is life
