316. Phil Collins Launch Event

There was really a German (National-Club) Event I missed… Munich on a Friday – Carl Lewis signed on a Kaleidoscope-Special-Packaging. On this day I got my dismissal from my old employer. This was more important and an ironic remark. Meanwhile I do have a new work.

UK launched the Phil Collins Suitcase later than the rest of Europe and invited the UK-Club-Members and their guests to a nice Event on Sunday, May 11th in famous Pinewood Studios (remember 007-Movies!). And I wanted to join…

“Come join the band” was the motto and “… help us perform our version of a Phil Collins classic” – good idea. Another song is really very often in my head in the moment: “London calling” from “The Clash”. British Airways and not Ryan Air or another called cheap airline flew me to the British capital where I was Saturday till Monday.

Linda, Peter, some other members and I met at Baker Street station for a tube-ride to Uxbridge at the end of the world (ok, nearby – it is outside famous M 25 ring around London). From there to Pinewood studios it is another 10 minutes by Taxicab – no comparison to a Mercedes-Taxi. We were late but in time – it is a trip take more than 1 hour at least.

Pinewood Studios are normally not open for visitors (see Warner Bros. Parks) and the whole area slept (remember it was Sunday) with one exception: a nice villa marked with the Club-Banner was full of life… James Maxwell and the Head for Heights people welcomed around 30 members, James held a speech (I saw again that I have to learn better English to understand what he said… the speech was important) and introduced the suitcase which was packed in a Bass-drum. James snatched away the front-skin and then we saw inside the package for the two Swatches designed by Phil Collins.

Divided in 3 groups we had to “work”… cover-design for a (- the -) CD, sing-training and a Quiz had to be done by each group. All the answers to the Quiz we heard in the speech of James – you had to be aware. A Phil Collins look-a-like performed and gave us the feeling to do our best – a really good show in a studio-room. The whole equipment seemed professional. Swatch organized a real tone-engineer and… what’s his job – professional sing-trainer? Sorry I forgot. Also they were able to give us the mood and the courage to sing real and not only to open and close the lips. “Come stop your crying – It will be alright” are the first words of the performed Phil Collins-Song “You’ll be in my heart” – these words have had two meanings J. We made a lot of Test-Versions – poor engineer… he heard all our voices on the head-set… and at least my singing is as bad as my English. A lot of fun! But, the professionals made a good job, at the end the song was really (or nearly?) perfect… as far as I remember. The participants will receive a CD with the song and some Video-Excerpts / Impressions from the day. I’m anxious to know if it is really so good as heard in the studio.

Between the recording sessions and the other activities we joined “finger buffet lunch” and had the possibility to buy the introduced suitcase. It is with 100 GBP a bit cheaper than in continental Europe, the exchange rate is better for EUR-Users, but… I didn’t buy one: wanted to save money. Now one week later I’m angry about my wrong decision. I think it is the first time I came back from a Club-Event abroad without a Swatch. My fault.

At the end of the Event we celebrated two birthdays – We performed “Happy birthday” … we had sing-training! Also we had to said “Good bye” to a Head for Heights employer which will leave the company. Causing this three occasions some cakes were served. Teatime originally… the winner of the Quiz was Linda, she got some “Swatch-Goodies” – including a umbrella, meanwhile it was raining. Also the best CD-Cover-Designer got a price and his design will be used for the announced CD.

It was a nice day and again I would like to say “Thank you” to James Maxwell and the “Head for Heights”-Team.

See you soon in Biel (hopefully as Gold-Member), or latest at Mystery Park in Interlaken.

Some photo-impressions from the event you’ll get soon here. Join again.
