The Neopet Pound: Overused?

by No_fear_at_all

I recently noticed that many people seem to give up on their pets because of their names, abilities, etc. But then I saw some people selling their neopets on the message board. "Is this right," I ask myself, "to sell these neopets to gain neopoints?". To find out the answer to my question, I packed my backpack and set off to ask fellow neopet owners.

"What do you think about other people selling their neopets to make easy neopoints?"

"No, Neopets is ABOUT the pets..." says loveablepet2007, owner of some neopets, "not the items or money that could be made by selling them."

Another question popped up into my mind: " What happens to the pets if the owners can't sell them?". Well, after a while of thinking, I figured out they get abandoned anyway. It is sort of queer that people actually raise Neopets and then sell them for a fixed amount of Neopoints. If they really wanted to make some Neopoints wouldn't it be easier to play games instead? But, I soon discovered that some neo-owners don't have time to play games with their neopet, so the easy way is to sell them. The profit would be used to supply the one that wasn't sold and, of course, the neo owner would probably be guilt-free. Over all: is abandoning a cruel punishment for innocent neopets or a system that makes homeless pets find a new owner which has time for them? To seek a possible answer, I would have to view from the beholder's eyes- The Neopets themselves. So that's why I sent Nuk, my roommate (I don't own him, he just lives with me for some weird reason). He is a green zafara with a forest cloak and prefers to be called a "Neocreature" than a "Neopet". He was traveling along and he suddenly found a bunch of Neopets. They were a Purple Zafara named Tamue, a Faerie Aisha named Dejiko, and a Faerie Zafara named Puaka.

"So what do you think about the neopet pound?" He asked, curiously.

"Bleah. Easy to get fleas in THERE." Replied Tamue. "I hated it in there." added Dejiko. Puaka, in the other hand, had a more positive response. "I got a good owner from it", Puaka states, "and I wasn't in there for a long time."

As Nuk got his questions solved, I had an interesting conversation with a person called flamewinguk. I asked flamewinguk about her feelings of the Neopet Pound. She said, " Well.. It's good that you can but .... Some people abuse the service so maybe it's a bad thing..." I pondered what was "abusing the service" meant, so I asked her.

" Well.. Say your pet looses its first battledome fight so you go straight out and abandon it... Or, I've seen this happen once, It couldn't get any friends.. So you abandon it .... erm... that's some of what I think anyways..."

It was kind of hard to believe at first, but when you see these people saying, "NEOPET FOR SALE" In every chatroom, it becomes like a disease and gets contagious. But the price of abandoning your pet has raised from 120np to 250np, so it would be very hard to make a profit of selling a pet. But is this price reasonable? Should it be higher or lower? "Yes I think if your going to abandon it then you should have to pay that price" flamewinguk said, as Nuk came over and checked what was happening. But, other people had different opinions. frosty210, a neopet owner, said, "No! They should make it higher, so people won't abandon!". Others neopet owners, such as the_crusifixer and blackdragon34567, agreed with frosty210.

As always, the Neopet Pound is always getting high amounts of abandoned Neopets from owners who can't take care of them or simply don't want them anymore. You can make a difference too by keeping your pet or adopting one. But always remember: Don't abuse the privilege of abandoning pets!
