Dark Revival
by Mustex56
Balthazar raced through the Dark Forest, breathing
heavily, heading towards the Cockroach Towers. He
knew he had to keep moving. He raced through a
stream, even the fairies sqeals as a little water
seeped through the holes at the top of their jars
couldn't ease his concern. He finally got within site
of the inn, and thought he was home free, when he was
sent to the ground by a mighty blow from behind.
When he looked up he saw what he feared....GARON!
"Let them go Balthazar."
"Never!"
Garon decided to move on with the conversation.
"Who are you working for?"
Balthazar shrugged his shoulders as he stood up
"whoever will pay the most."
"If there's noone in particular then why are all your
faeries tonight light faeries. I would have expected
at least one fire, or water, or dark, but all light,
it just doesn't add up."
Balthazar tried to keep his Neopoker face even though
Garon had not only hit the nail on the head, but sent
it through several boards. He shrugged his shoulders
again as he worked his hand slowly towards a pouch on
the back of his belt. He tried to keep Garon talking,
he doubted he could hold his own if Garon attacked.
"We're both Lupes, why do we need to fight."
This just seemed to rile Garon up more "You're not a
Lupe you're a discraise!"
Balthazar smiled "for once we agree on something
hahahaha!"
He jerked a sparkshooter from the pouch and fired it
at Garon sending him to the ground as he made a break
for the inn.
When he got there he headed for the restuarant where
Jhudora was sitting at a table eating Mustard
Icecream. He sat down still looking nervous.
"The Queen Faerie sent in Garon. She's on to us."
Jhudora smiled, "I will deal with the Queen in my own
good time. And Garon doesn't have the attention span
to hunt you for long. He'll want to get back to the
Faerie and Uber Faerie Caves. You need only get me
the light faeries I need."
Balthazar sat them down on the table "Do you really
think you can revive her?"
"HAHAHA I know I can. If the legend is right all I
need is the power of a hundred light faeries. And you
shall be greatly rewarded with a position as Governor
of the Haunted Woods when I rule all of Neopia."
Balthazar thought about this, "can I still hunt
faeries?"
Jhudora chuckled,"sure what's a bad guy without a
hobby?
The already nervous light faeries became horrified as
it finally dawned on them the ancient creature she
planned to revive.
Garon walked into the Faerie Queens throne room a bit
beaten and bruised. He noticed the Queen lacked her
usual elegance as she paced before her throne. She
seemed jumpy, and on edge. The first words she spat
out were "Could you stop him!"
Garon was still confused about why she had sent him
on the mission in the first place, although he readily
accepted, because he wanted to know who was the
greater Lupe, himself or Balthazar.
"So what's so important about this. Who cares if
Jhudora is buy light faeries, Balthazar's been
kidnapping Faeries for years and you hadn't asked me
to stop him?"
The Queen suddenly became angry "Did you get him or
not!"
Garon got a bit embarrased and started to blush at
this "No he got the drop on me. He definately went to
the Cockroach Towers, but he was gone before I got
there."
The Queen looked like she was about to cry as she
walked over to Garon. "Garon do you know how the
Brain Tree got there."
Garon shook his head "Before my time."
The Queen tried to fake a smile "Before mine as well.
Before any Faerie or Neopet I know of, but there is a
legend that a Queen Faerie who lived long ago created
it as a prison for a Faerie unimaginable power. Her
name was Zow, the Brain Faerie. She turned Neopets
against one another. The Lost Desert fighting
Faerieland, Meridell fighting Tyrannia. Next to her
Dr. Sloth was a joke. Even the few Neopets who could
resist her influence and didn't fight each other were
no match for her power. With a wave of her hand she
could send a dozen Lupes flying through the air. Then
finally the Faerie Queen stepped forward. Noone knows
quite how, but she lured the Brain Faerie into the
Haunted Woods and combined 100 Dark Faeries to make
the Brain Tree around her. It's said she can be freed
from the Brain Tree, but only if someone gathered 100
light Faeries together and used their power on the
Tree, a task thought impossible until Balthazar
emerged a few years ago. From the moment he began his
rampage we feared it might come to this. And now it
seems it has. If Jhudora manages to free the Brain
Faerie, she will feed on the evil in Jhudora's heart
and serve her, Jhudora may very well rule Neopia."
Garon gaped at this story "THEN WE HAVE TO STOP
HER!....somehow."
Balthazar approached Jhudora's table again for the
umpteenth time and handed her the Light Faeries.
"There are a hundred exactly. And Garon hasn't been
causing me any more trouble. So all that's left is to
take them down to the Brain Tree and free her"
Jhudora grinned "and don't forget take over all of
Neopia."
They walked away from the Coachroach towers, but were
amazed at what they saw. It was surronded by
countless Lupes. Suddenly one stepped forward, and
they reconized the grinning figure as Garon himself.
"Sorry I couldn't settle our little score sooner
Balthazar, but I had to round up a few of my friends.
You weren't a problem, but I wasn't sure how I'd do in
a fight against Jhudora."
They heard something step up behind them and turned
to see the Queen Faerie.
"Yes now if you'd be so kind as to tell me where those
Light Faeries are."
Jhudora laughed, "floating right above your head
sister!"
Suddenly one of the jars came down directly on the
Queen's head knocking her unconcious and Garon
realized that rather than carry all 100 Jhudora was
somehow using her Faerie powers to fly them all to the
tree. Then Jhudora waved her hand and a force of
some kind blew all the other Lupes away. Garon
however managed to cling to the ground with his claws.
Jhudora turned to Balthazar.
"Quickly you take care of Garon, I'll get the faeries
in place!"
She began running towards the tree and Balthazar
pulled out his spark shooter again, but this time
Garon was ready. He ran at Balthazar, dodging 3 shots
before leaping onto the other Lupe. The began
wrestling fiercely, niether able to get the better of
the other as they rolled through the woods, and
Jhudora got to the tree 1 at the time picking each jar
out of the air and placing them in a circle around the
Brain Tree then she stepped back and started shouting.
"ANCIENT FAERIES HERE ME NOW,
FREE THE MIGHTY FAERIE ZOW!"
The bottles began glowing brighter and each seemed to
be sending a beam of light energy into the brain of
the Brain Tree, and then that began to glow. Garon
saw this and pushed himself away from Balthazar. He
ran towards the tree and screamed "Nooooooo!"
Garon raced for the tree but by the time he got there
the Brain had opened up, released a glowing figure now
floating above it and closed again leaving the Brain
Tree exactly as it was. All the Light Faeries were
drained. They had turned gray, stopped glowing, and
fallen to the bottom of their jars.
When the light cleared the figure didn't look all
that imposing. It was a young faerie in a lab coat,
with long white hair, and a clip board. She flew down
and landed next to Jhudora. Garon wasn't sure what to
do so he stopped a few feet away and started growling
at the 2. The Brain Faerie turned and pointed at
Garon, then everything went black.
Eventually, Garon felt someone shaking him .and
looked up to see the Faerie Queen. She was dirty,
with her crown tilted to one side, and a sad look on
her face.
"It's over Garon, Jhudora's won. Soon she will rule
Neopia with the Brain Faerie working for her. Already
I can feel the Brain Faerie giving Quests to get what
she needs, and working her powers over all the
Neopets, and Faeries to turn them against each other,
she can't be stopped unless.... no that won't happen"
Garon tried to stand up, but fell flat on his back
again "Unless what? There has to be a way to stop
her!"
The Faerie Queen didn't look very enthusiastic "It's
possible that the Neopets and Faeries of this age are
stronger than those of the age she lived in. Maybe
the war with Dr. Sloth strengthened them and they can
stop her, but I doubt it. It would take countless
Neopets resisting her influence to beat her, and they
would all have to stand up and fight her in the
battledome. Even if they can beat her this is a grim
day for Neopia."
The Brain Tree blurted out,"What day did Garon fail to
stop Jhudora and probably doom us all?"
Garon ignored the tree and looked up at the Queen
confidently, "they can.....somehow......I just know
it......"
The Faerie Queen smiled "Garon I can only hope you're
right."
