Secrets
VII

There's a young couple that once sat on the bench. They were so in love and making plans for a future together. Then one day they had a bitter argument and both went separate ways. Now when they come back it's always alone. They sit with sad faces and tears. Both hold a picture of the two of them together. They still love each other but pride won't let either make the first move. How can they be brought together again? Then one day she is sitting there and a gust of wind blows the picture away. She must have it back! She can't lose that too. So she runs after it and then she sees him standing there. He has caught the picture and he is startled when he recognizes it. He looks up and sees her and he smiles. She runs into his arms; pride is forgotten.

Then they are there sitting on the bench again. This time the tears are of joy and they promise not to let anything come between them again. Did destiny step in and work things out? The bench knows but its another happy secret to be kept.

A mother pushes a young boy in a wheel chair up to the bench. She sits there and reads to him. He is a beautiful child with blonde curly hair, sparkling blue eyes, and dimples that show when he smiles, which is often. He knows his time is short he can see the tears of sadness in his mothers eyes, even though she tries to hide them. Sometimes when they are there he sings softly to his mother. He has a lovely voice and sings in church. Everyone is quiet when he sings so they can hear his words and remember them. He has a disease that there is no cure for. Progress has been made in research but will it be soon enough? Time is running out. He had told his mom he wants his body donated to research if he doesn't make it. Maybe he can bring a cure closer. Maybe he can save someone else. He tells his mom not to worry soon he will be singing in Gods Choir. This time they are sitting there and she is reading his favorite story. From the corner of her eye she sees his hand fall. Tears fill here eyes but she reads on. Soon it is almost dark and she can no longer see. So she pushes the wheelchair home with the little body. She and the bench both know that now he is in heaven singing to God with his beautiful voice. God loved his singing too and called him home. The bench knows he is at peace in Gods arms now.

There's a young man sitting there. He is very happy! He wants to shout "I made it, I made it". But he doesn't - he says it softly. Only the bench hears. It knows how hard he tried to make good grades in school. How he struggled with some of the hard stuff. How he would go over it again and again until he had it right. How he was so afraid he wouldn't be accepted at the college he has wanted to attend for as long as he can remember. He knew his parents were unable to pay his college expenses so he had to win a scholorship. So he sits there smiling with the letter in his hand. Does his mom know? Can she see him from heaven and is she smiling too? He is sure she is, she was his encouragement for as long as she lived. He lost her just two months ago. She was killed instantly in an automobile accident. Someone ran a stop sign at high speed and both died. Finally he can hold it back no longer. He shouts for all the world to hear "I made it mom". In his heart he knows she is smiling. Another secret for the bench to keep? No this one will be known in genetic research.

Another hard winter and no one comes much. Its a lonely time for the bench. But it is patient. Spring will come again soon!
