He's home! He's home! After three tours of duty in Vietnam and a time of going all over the world for the Army, he is out! After thirty years he made it safely out of service. Tho he was proud to serve his country in what ever way he could, he is still glad to be home. His four children are scattered all over the states but he knows they are happy. Now he and his wife can do things they have missed so much. He sits there happily smiling as he thinks about his life ahead. Maybe now he can see something beside army bases. Maybe buy a camper and see interesting sites. Or a fishing boat to fish when he wants too. Now he is free to do what he wants not what the army wants. He sits there dreaming his dreams as the bench remembers him as a little boy playing nearby. Or as a young soldier home on leave that always stopped there. Or as a man soon to retire that sits there and makes plans. Now he is free to follow his dreams or make new ones. The bench remembers him growing up there. A young girl sits there. She is torn, she must make a decision. Should she marry her childhood sweetheart? Or should she follow her plans to be a doctor of medicine? Something she has planned all her life. If she takes that road would he wait? Or would she loose her chance at happiness? She knows it would be good for their future to follow through. But what of his dreams? Could they put their lives on hold for a few years to fulfill those dreams? Then he is there with her. They talk for a while and decide to put their lives together on hold. His dream is space. And he has been accepted by NASA. He gives her a ring, not to tie her to a commitment, but to always remember he loves her. They will spend their free times together to keep their love alive and glowing. Both careers can be of service to their country and its people. The bench listens to their plans and if it could it would be smiling. As the young people get up to leave, there is a squeak. Could it be... neon_sapphire |
