The Clay Hill

When I was in school we had more boys than girls in our class of 18. That was ok with me I always played with boys anyway. I rarely played with girls because I rarely saw any. Anyway I only knew boys games. At this school part of our buildings were old army barracks that were donated I guess. Our lunchroom was one of them. It was located on a site with a clay hill behind it. Some places there were rocky which was great for sliding. If we could we used a flat cardboard box and took turns sliding down rocky places. If no box was handy we slid without one. Our mom's didn't like that too much because we always came home with clay dust in our clothes. I always wore jeans, by the way, or overalls, no dresses for me if I could get out of it. There were places that didn't have rocks but we would sit down and slide down anyway. Once one of the boys made me mad and I wouldn't play. It wasn't long before they come hunting me to get me back. Maybe they were conning me, I don't know, but they told me it was no fun playing without me. We got in trouble sometimes about playing there but it didn't stop us, it was too much fun. When they built the gym there was a place in back where you could go under it. That was a fun place to play till they closed it up. The bathrooms were located down a hill too which was ok until it rained a lot. Then they would get flooded, especially the girs side. Somehow they always fixed it. We stayed at that school till I was in the eighth grade. The new school didn't have places to slide, just flat land. But that was ok I had outgrown sliding down clay hills.
