Falls Beauty

Its November, the skies are overcast with the promise of a much needed rain. I can't wait for my shift to be over, I'm so impatient! I feel the need to be outside, to walk in the woods, to feel the wind in my hair, to see the beauty of fall colors. At last I am on my way home, to park in my usual place and head for the river. The walk is very pleasent, the wind ruffles my hair and cools me. The walk through the woods invigorating! I feel new joy inside! At the river I sit and watch the current slowly drifting with leaves of gold, brown, some red and dull green. The leaves pile up in places around roots and limbs until the eddying current catches them and takes them downstream. The old timbers are partly exposed with mud and river grass covering the rest. I sit here and think of someone that would enjoy this with me. We would walk along hand in hand, our hearts touching, our eyes loving each other and the beauty that surounds us. The new blanket that is spreading on the forest floor to protect the new growth and seeds from the coming winter. The gray moss hanging from the bare trees like an old mans beard. The wind is blowing the moss about like a sea gale would blow an old sea captains beard. The leaves are blowing about in natures way of weaving her blanket of brown, with just the right amount of red, gold, and dull green. The winter covering for the seeds that will be reborn with the first warm kiss of the sun in the spring, with the nourishing april showers to bring the forest to life again. I look around at the colors of fall, the green of the pines, the brown of oak, the clear glass red of the sumac, the gold of the grapevine and popular. The beauty that God has blessed us with. Even the harshness of winter has its beauty. A fish jumps in the river after something that caught its eye, maybe an insect drifting down the current. I hear the sound of birds in the distance, a crow upriver, a mocking bird downriver. The clouds are banking and getting darker, but I hate to leave. Love, to you I dedicate this time, with the hope that soon this beauty will be ours together. As we sit here arm in arm and marvel at God's blessing!
