Majestic Flight

Sometimes I wish I could do what I read about in indian folklore. I wish my spirit would join that of the eagle. Then I could fly the high air currents. I could fly over this land and see the great beauty here. Maybe up north and fly the updrafts and air currents around Niagra Falls. I could feel the moisture from the falls as I fly closer. Maybe the sun would be just right and I would see the magic of the sun on the water. Or see hundreds of rainbows in the waterspray from the falls. Maybe then I could fly across the mountains fo the north and see how much of it is still wilderness. Fly along the Canadian border or maybe in the wilderness of Canada. In the mountains would I see the mighty silvertip grizzly, or hear the bugle of an elk or moose? Maybe I could fly the mountains of the bighorn sheep and hear the distant sound of a male defending his territory. I could fly to the western coast and hear the breakers crashing on the rocks. Or in Washington state in the big tree country. Are there any left there or have they been cut down? Take a nights rest on a high limb of the great Sequoias of California. Would I see any of the land as it once was, or would I see the land stripped of its beauty? I could drift over into Navada and see the purple sage I read about or is that too a thing of the past? Or what about the beautiful Sego Lily, is it still growing in its natural habitat? Then I could catch the currents down to the southwest. See the beauty of the Grand Canyon. Stop to rest there on the high cliffs and watch the sun rise and light up the canyon. Maybe to the desert in spring when the desert flowers are blooming and the cactus that grows there. Would I see a sidewinder crawling along the sand? I could fly over the mesas there. Would I see beauty there still or would I see the tracks of man. Have we destroyed too much of the beauty of this nation we live in, and is enough of it saved? As the day closes I would sit on a high cliff and see the magificent colors of the sun setting in the western desert.
